H1N1 FLU AND YOU (AND GWC)
  • H1N1 FLU (swine flu) is now widespread
    throughout Orange County.
  • Children, pregnant women, medically fragile,
    and young people under 25 are at highest risk.
  • Probably need 3 flu shots this year one for
    regular flu and two for the H1N1 flu
  • Check your campus website for more
    information.

SYMPTOMS OF H1N1 FLU
  • Fever, cough, sore throat, runny/stuffy nose,
    body aches, headache, chills, fatigue.
  • Some may experience vomiting and diarrhea with
    or without fever.
  • Most will recover within 3-5 days will not
    require medical care.
  • Return to school or work 24 hours after relief
    of symptoms (fever-free without medication).

WHAT TO DO IF YOU FEEL SICK
  • Stay home if you are sick
  • This is the single most effective way to prevent
    the spread of flu to others
  • Tell your instructor you are sick
  • Please note that class attendance regulations
    vary for each class and are at the discretion
    of the instructor.

Flu Symptom Guidelines
  • Mild flu symptoms fever under 100, mild cough,
    feel reasonably well care for self at home
  • Moderate symptoms fever 100 to 102, contact
    student health services or health care provider
  • Severe symptoms fever 102 or higher, shortness
    of breath or vomiting go to the emergency room

STAY HEALTHY BY
  • Get the flu shots
  • Coughing into tissues or your sleeve.
  • Washing your hands regularly and carrying hand
    sanitizer or hand wipes with you.
  • Use sanitizer, hand wipes or soap and water
    before and after
  • Eating
  • Using shared spaces or equipment such as
    computers, phones, lab equipment and books
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth to
    decrease spread of germs
  • Not returning to GWC until 24 hours after fever
    breaks
