Misconfigured Email Clients

• Not much spare capacity on deskmail servers
• Misconfigured clients using up lots of resources
• Most cases are OE or Outlook users checking for
  new mail in all their folders
• The solution is easy to find
• Automatic configurator (OE on Windows)
• Specific OE tips for efficiency
• Nagging reminders to start soon.

Why Replace Listproc?

• CREN (the author) no longer developing or
  supporting
• Unstable at UWs scale (over 4,000 active lists)
• Requires constant sysadmin monitoring and tweaking

New Mailing List Software

• Mailman
• the GNU Mailing List Manager
• Replacement for listproc
• More stable
• Open source (in Python)
• Web-based list management
• Web-based subscription and subscriber configs.

MailMan Migration

• New Lists created in MailMan starting 9/16/2002
• Class lists created after 10/14/2002 will be on
  MailMan (tentative)
• CC will provide list migration tools (later)
• Tentative date for ListProc discontinuation is
  March, 2003

• Dial-in, email, web publishing, shell access.
• Initial target is Spring 2002 graduates.
