Report Structure and Content
  • Summary/Abstract
  • No more one page Key goal of lab Essential
    empirical/calculation methods Summarize results
    quantitatively Precise conclusions about results
  • Introduction
  • Clear and concise statement of the lab objective
What are the key ideas, conclusions that the
    reader should concentrate on?
  • Experimental Design
  • Goals, theory, equipment, data, and calculations,
    conclusions
  • Important questions what is important theory?
Why will this equipment and set of experiments
provide needed data? What specific calculations
are required? Accuracy and safety issues of
    experiments
  • Results and Discussion
  • Data presentation and (calculation) results
    Statistics
  • What can you determine and with what accuracy?
    Any surprise results?
  • Conclusions and Recommendations
  • Briefly repeat the goals
  • Compare the results with the goals, and state
    your conclusions concisely

Example Control Labs
  • Introduction
  • Theory pH, pressure and flow dynamics modeling
based on reaction curve feedback tuning rule
from reaction curve models cascade control
  • Experiment design
  • Calibration of measurements (e.g. flow, pH)
  • Modeling Step test (e.g. where? and how (size
    and direction)?)
  • Controller tuning (e.g. which loop do we start?)
  • Results and Discussions
  • Modeling
  • Data analysis (statistics) Dealing with noise
  • Determination of model parameters
  • Discussions on the results
  • Controller tuning and strategy
  • Determination of controller parameters
  • Controller performance (e.g. settling time
    overshoot, etc)
  • Discussion on the results
  • SDL project
  • Conclusions and Recommendations
  • Are the experiments consistent with the goals (or
    objective)
  • Are the results consistent with theory? If not,
    why and suggestion for improvement?
