Important Factors That Influence Motivation
  • When these are feelings present there tends to be
a sustained motivation over the long haul. That
is not say that there wont be difficulties at
    times.
  • Purpose
  • A Worthy Challenge
  • Camaraderie
  • Responsibility
  • Growth

3
What Motivates?
  • Motivation (Drive)

Outcome or Experience
x
Loss of Motivation (Reduction of Drive)
x Need
X Satisfaction
Awareness of New Need
4
GETTING MOTIVATED
  • To obtain meaningful motivation create a purpose
that aligns with your personal wants and needs.
  • To effectively achieve a clear purpose start by
    setting GOALS!

5
Set SMART Goals
  • Activate SMART goal thinking
  • Specific
  • Measurable
  • Achievable
  • Realistic
  • Time-phased

6
Set SMART Goals (contd)
  • Set specific measurable goals. If you achieve all
conditions of that goal, then you can be
confident and comfortable in its achievement. If
you consistently fail to meet this goal, then you
can adjust it or create a team that will aid you
in taking the appropriate action to improve
    skills.

7
Effective GOALS setting
  • Set Performance Goals, Not Outcome Goals
  • Express Goals Positively.
  • Be Precise
  • Set measurable dates, times, and amounts.
  • Set Priorities.
  • Write Goals Down.
  • Keep Operational Goals Small.

8
When Thinking about How to Achieve Goals ask
yourself the following Questions?
  • What skills do I need to achieve this?
  • What information do I need?
  • What help, assistance, or collaboration do I
    need?
  • What resources do I need?
  • What can block progress?
  • Am I making any assumptions?
  • Is there a better way of doing things?

9
Relate to Your Goals this Year by keeping a
weekly To-Do List!
  • These may be specific course assignments,
talking to your professors, opportunities for
volunteer work, or starting a community service
    project.
  • Write down things you want to accomplish for the
day and when the end of the week arrives evaluate
yourself to see how many youve completed!
  • Completion of each goal increases your levels of
    self-confidence and satisfaction.
