  • You are researching and addressing the needs of
    your own community

    student to assist members of the community

    language by applying it to real world situations

  • After interviewing various organizations in our
    community you will be creating an informational
    brochure in Spanish to address the needs of the
    Hispanics for that organization

How do you find someone to interview?
  • Network
  • -contact people you know through email,phone,
    and/or letters
  • -follow up on contacts
  • Identify professional organizations that can
    assist you.

Preparing for Research Interviewing
  • Identify the organizations you wish to learn
    about
  • Familiarize yourself with organizations you wish
    to interview
  • Design questions that will allow you to determine
    the organizations needs
  • Practice interviewing

The Meeting
  • Be professional
  • Introduce yourself
  • Shake their hand
  • On-time
  • Dress appropriately
  • No gum/candy
  • Use professional language
  • Be prepared
  • Make sure questions are well-thought out and
    prepared
  • Act interested
  • Be enthusiastic!
  • Make eye contact throughout interview

After the Interview
  • Politely thank individual for their time
  • Record accurately with whom you interviewed, what
    was discussed, and any additional information
  • Keep copies of all correspondence and notes
  • Write a thank-you note for each interview and
    list one or two aspects that were helpful to you

community
  • What you are doing will make a difference in the
    lives of many Hispanics in your community
  • Remember you will be making an impression on
    community leaders by working on this project

  • Your name will be on this brochure as it is
    distributed throughout the community-make sure it
    is something you are proud of!
  • Our project will be receiving press and will be
    presented at professional meetings.
