Some Basic Information

• It is a disease of the skin
• it mainly affects the peripheral nerves, mucous
  membranes, and the skin
• was named after Dr. Gerhard Armauer Hansen
• contrary to popular belief, brief contact with an
  infected person probably will not make you
  infected with the disease as well

• The disease is caused by a bacteria called
  Mycobacterium leprae
• For every person affected with this disease, it
  is shown differently depending on how your body
  is affected by this bacteria, and also by how
  good your immune system is, etc

  disease, how your immune system reacts, and other
  factors, hansens disease is broken down into
  five specific types which are tuberculoid,
  borderline tuberculoid, borderline, borderline
  lepromatous, and lepromatous

Symptoms

• Dry and hairless skin lesions
• skin being discoloured and numb
• arms and wrists swollen and painful

How Can You Get it?

• Long-term contact with an infected person

What Happens After You Get it?

• Prominant affects of Hansens Disease is not
  shown clearly until four to eight years after
  youve been infected
• Your nerves may get damaged due to this disease
  and therefore you will no longer be able to
