• Standard GPRS SIM card
• GPRS device IP address, usually, are NOT public
  (NAT 10.x.x.x)
• Device can access INTERNET
• No one from INTERNET can reach the device
• Variable IP adress
• Pricing on exchanged data volume
• Permanent connection must be managed by the
  device

• Not offered by all telecom provider
• Standard GPRS SIM card
• GPRS device IP address are public
• Device can access INTERNET
• Someone from INTERNET can reach the device
• Some ports may be closed (depending of telecom
  provider)
• Variable IP address, use a DynDNS system (no-ip)
• Pricing on exchanged data volume
• Security issue, VPN is highly recommended

To perform PLC Remote Maintenance Monitoring in
GPRS, the industrial solution is - the PRIVATE
GPRS APN or - to create VPN connections over
the public GPRS APN

• With a point to point TCP/IP INTERNET connection,
  VPN protocol allows to link together two distant
  networks to a single virtual network
• The VPN connection is fully secure with
  encryption
