What Is Student Affairs?

• Student Affairs Refers to the administrative
  unit on a college campus responsible for those
  out-of-class staff members, programs, functions,
  and services that contribute to the education and
  development of students.

Did You Know?

• Student affairs is a twentieth century
  phenomenon. Origins of profession began here in
  America.
• Late 1800s, American higher education placed
  greater emphasis on research.
• Development of the student became secondary issue
  for presidents.

• First deans of men and women functioned without
  the benefit of prior history or professional
  preparation.
• In Loco Parentis Latin meaning in place of a
  parent. Refers to legal responsibility of a
  person or organization to take on some of the
  functions and responsibilities of a parent.
