• Background in Public Safety
• Law Enforcement 23 years
• Decorated 3 times for Lifesaving, Bravery,
  Heroism.
• Fire Service 22 years
• Retired at rank of Fire Chief past 10 years.
• Emergency Medical Service 10 years,
• Emergency Management 5 years
• Former Director of Emer. Mgmt. Allegan County.
• May 12th we became Kalamazoo County residents.

• This office receives its authority under
• Michigan Public Act 390 of 1976,
• Resolution from the County Board of Commissioners
  adopted on December 2, 1981
• and revised on October 5, 1993

Operational Responsibilities

• Four phases of Emergency Management
• Mitigate Review and Research areas within our
  county with suspected
  problems or risks.
• Planning Development of new plans and
  continuous updating of the current
  county plan.
• Response Two areas of response
• 1. Emergency Operation Center
• 2. Field Operations
• Recovery Follow through with the operations in
  the community, evaluation and
  disaster assistance with state and
  federal government.

County-Wide Partnerships

• County government is the only governmental agency
  within Kalamazoo County that has a Recognized
  program by the State of Michigan
• Other governmental entities within Kalamazoo
  County have assigned Liaisons as their
  representative
• Community Support Plans from
• Cities of Kalamazoo and Portage
• Township of Comstock, Oshtemo and Kalamazoo

• National Terrorism Institute at St. Petersburg
  College Live television program called Live
  Response on NIMS.

• Tabletops with All school districts, Pfizer,
  Portage, and County Human Services (MEMS).
• LEPC
• Sites 67. All completed Being updated in new
  format.
• We have just computerized all our plans and put
  them on disc and will furnish to all county fire
  departments in October.

• Where Mother Nature was our primary concern,
