ACADEMY OF ENGINEERING
The course is designed to fit into the Academy of
Engineering at Runshaw College.

Vision Statement
  • Provide able, well qualified students to meet
    local engineering employment needs.
  • Ensure that these people have the skills required
    by local companies.
  • Ensure that they have an understanding of all
    aspects of companies.
  • To retain people in the local area.

Goals and Objectives
  • The course is designed to fit into the Academy of
    Engineering at Runshaw College, the goals and
    objectives of which are
  • To attract more able students into engineering.
  • To attract more females and ethnic groups into
    engineering.
  • To ensure continuity and progression.
  • To retain good students in engineering.

Foundation Degree in Applied Engineering

  • The course will be a Full-time course involving
    sandwich delivery.
  •  
  • The course will be delivered at Runshaw College
    by Runshaw staff. There will be input from MMU
    staff as appropriate.

Who is it For?
  • 18 year old students completing Level 3 studies.
  • Students who are seeking an alternative to
    immediately going to University.
  • Young people who do not wish to start an
    apprenticeship at 18.
  • Employees who are completing apprenticeships.
  • Existing members of the workforce who have been
    identified as potential managers.
  • Young people not currently employed who meet the
    entry requirements.

What are the entry requirements ?
  • Candidates will normally be at least 18 years of
    age before the end of December following their
    entry to the course.
  • Candidates will normally be required to have at
    least one of the following academic
    qualifications, or their equivalent
  • Passes in at least two GCE A2 levels including
    mathematics and either physics or an equivalent
    science or technology-based subject two
    appropriate AS levels may be accepted in lieu
    of a single A2 level.
  • Vocational A-Level Double Award in Engineering
  • BTEC National Diploma or National Certificate
    including mathematics and equivalent engineering
    related subjects at level 3.
  • Other candidates will be considered on merit.

OUTCOME
Individuals will have a Foundation Degree in
partnership with Manchester Metropolitan
University. One year work experience in a company
- working in Design, Manufacture, Sales and
Marketing, Administration Result would be
individuals who have Level 3 qualifications, a
foundation degree at Level 4 and have
experienced one year working within an
organisation. IN SHORT, SOMEONE TO BE VALUED AND
CAN PLAY A LEADING ROLE IN TAKING LOCAL
ORGANISATIONS FORWARD.

    SMEs, influential people, supporters
  • Everything professionally produced.
  • 40 attended.
  • Very positive feedback
  • More high profile, local publicity

  • Packs sent to all those who have not attended.
  • Follow up phone call.
  • Consortia to arrange meetings that I will go to
    and do my presentation again.
  • Interest forms collected
  • Operations/planning group formed and meeting
    arranged.
