What is the Project Vision?

• Bridge IT and Home Healthcare
• For patients with low to medium care needs
• Main drivers
• Increase patients quality of life
• Decrease costs for health-care

Is the Vision in Reach?

• By supplying IT support for treating patients in
  a home environment
• Biomedical devices that patients can have in
  their homes are increasing in numbers
• Supply a platform that enables remote monitoring
  and support of these devices

How is Home Healthcare Done Today?

• Biomedical devices are used for treating certain
  groups of patients
• E.g. Breathing disorders
• Clinical data from the devices is not used at all
• Technical support by phone and home visits only

What is the Context of the Project?

• The project is large-scale, run as a cooperation

• The medical technical department (MTA)
• The department for development and business
  support (UTV)
• KTH/IMIT and KTH/EMIS
• Auldenfire Sweden AB
• The CSD course team is a part of it
• Three previous phases have been undergone in the
  project prior to this one
• The CSD course is the main working force in this
  phase

Challenges Ahead

• Consider the ever-changing environment of
  telemedicine

  biomedical devices in a uniform way
• Manage a full software development lifecycle
• For two parallel projects

• Work in a multi-cultural team (6 students, 6
  nationalities)
• Manage a heterogeneous group of stakeholders
• Different interests
• Different visions
• Different degrees of responsibility

Long-Term Results

• Technical staff can monitor equipment
• Detect malfunctions in the equipment
• May even be solved over a distance
• Clinical Staff can monitor treatment
• Evaluate and adjust treatment without bothering
  the patient
• Increased feeling of safety for the patients

• Dramatically Increased quality of life for
  patients with cronical diseases or disabilities
• Patients can be treated in a home environment
• Patients feel more secure a happy patient is a
  good patient
• Dramatically reduced costs for patient care
• Costs that are ultimately paid by the tax payers
