Second Global Plan to Stop TB, 2006-15

• Key features
• Builds on first Global Plan (2000-05) and
  Progress Report
• 10 years' timeframe (2006-15), leading to 2015
  MDGs
• Complementary to MDGs TB working group report
  (that calls for support for the Global Plan)
• Consistent with proposed WHA resolution in 2005
• Supports national needs for long-term planning
  and financial sustainability
• Develops strategic directions set out by 2nd ad
  hoc Committee on the TB epidemic
• Based on contributions of each WG's workplan

• Magnitude of the problem
• Based on Resistance surveys in 64 countries and
  predictive data from 72 countries the number of
  new cases of MDR-TB for 2000 was estimated to be
  273,000 (95 confidence limits 185,000 and
  414,000).

• Important recent developments
• DOTS-Plus not longer limited to so-called "hot

• The GLC was able to start, maintain and expand
  it's operations thanks to grants from different
  donors, including the BM Gates Foundation
• Funding comes to an end mid July 2005

• The Board
• Acknowledges GLC plays a pivotal role in the
  control of MDRTB/ prevention of the emergence of
  resistance to 2nd line drugs
• Recognizes financial sustainability of GLC is at
  stakedonors should be mobilized to ensure the
  financial sustainability.

Evaluation Partners' Forum

• Decisions
• The Board confirms that the Forum is an important
  body of the Stop TB Partnership which needs to be
  meeting once every 3 years
• Requests the Secretariat to conduct an online
  poll about the future format and date of the
  Forum
• Based on the results of the poll, the Secretariat
  will propose a concept of the next Forum (eg.
  Constituency engagement, break-out sessions,
  advocacy regarding outcomes 2005 Targets, etc)
