HPS Things To Plug In
  • Things to plug in
  • Green O2
  • Black N2
  • Grey CO2
  • Yellow Air Compressor or plumbed air
  • Electrical Port
  • Umbilical Source for fluid GU and Blood

    connectors
  • Ethernet Ok for any of three ports
  • Fluids R-Right and L-Left-Trauma
  • Monitor Plug into Desktop Computer (If using
ICU monitor, plug into Monitor Interface on rack)
  • Bar Code Reader Optional if Purchased

6
HPS Fluids GU Fed Through HPS System Rack
  • Find GU Pump on back of rack.
  • The tube hanging from the left side of pump has a
plastic quick connect. Connect this to the
Orange/Red GU source of umbilical. (will be
    labeled)
  • Connect IV bag filled with (pre-colored)
distilled water to tubing coming from right side
    of pump.
  • Pump will push fluid from IV bag into GU source
    when rack is turned on.
  • This fluid will come out of anatomy of mannequin.

7
HPS Fluids Trauma and BloodGravity Fed through
IV bag
  • Find IV source on umbilical on back of rack.
  • If Older HPS model IV fluid source inlet is thin
    clear tube.
  • If Newer HPS model IV fluid source inlet is thin
    Blue tube.
  • Pericardiocentesis and Chest Tubes fill through
White Trauma Tube labeled Trauma In located on
pneumatic connector on the right side.
  • Secretions eyes, ears and mouth
  • See your sales person regarding the TDCK for more
    secretions and bleeding.

8
Removing Fluids From HPS
  • GU All simulated urine will come out directly
from simulator anatomy. Be sure to push clear
fluids through GU source to empty all colored
    fluid when done.
  • Blood IV Blood is removed from Drug Rec Out
tube located in back of rack on umbilical.
  • Trauma Chest Tube and Pericardiocentesis fluids
are removed from the source of those procedural
areas, located on the simulator. Use syringe to
pull excess fluids from source. Then flush clear
distilled water through Trauma source again to be
sure any colored fluids have been flushed out,
again removing fluid through Trauma site. Then
flush Trauma Source tube with air to ensure
complete removal of any remaining fluids.

9
HPS Proper IV/Fluid Line Care
  • Use clear distilled water to flush all tubes
after a colored fluid has been administered.
Follow clear fluid flushing with air. This will
push all remaining fluids out of tubes lessoning
risks for cracks and build up. For best results
    use 60cc syringe.
  • Every 3-4 months flush lines using 1-tsp white
vinegar to 1 gal of distilled water, followed by
flushed air to keep all IV lines healthy without
    cracking and build up.

10
Powering Up HPSABCs of Getting Started
  • Model number (IP address) should appear within
seconds. Highlight model number (i.e., HPS 976)
  • If HPS IP address does not appear, shut down
system and try again, check all hoses for proper
    connection and re-start system.
  • A. Plug in Air
  • HPS Plug yellow air hose into back of rack.
  • Click the connect button (at bottom of
  • connect window on computer.
  • NOTE Attaching yellow hose is always the
  • last thing to do before connecting patient
  • A. Turn on Gasses/Air
  • Be sure tanks are chained or secured to the wall
according to Code. N2, CO2, and O2 should be
    connected to back of rack.
  • Turn air compressor on for HPS if plumbed air not
available. Make sure air NOT connected to back
    of rack.
  • All gas/air pressure should be set at 50 PSI
  • B. Turn on Rack/Box
  • (On/Off Switch located bottom left corner in
    front-do not use feet)
  • C. Computer Workstation
  • Turn on Computer
  • Click on HPS Launcher (password HPS) and open
    patient

Tips and Tricks for HPS
  • X-Ray
  • Load X-rays from thumb drive to desk top and open
    when called for in SCE
  • Making my simulation real
  • Use your imagination and use costumes, wigs,
    make-up, shoes, clothes, toys
  • cards, flowers, magazines, remote control and
    TV, food tray, Phone etc
  • Cut a hole in the mattress of the bed and tuck
umbilical through the hole and under bed so it
cannot be seen by the eye. Make sure the bend
does not crimp any hoses for fluid and air.
  • From mannequin to umbilical is approximately 8ft.
Umbilical cannot be longer as it decreases
realism of time by slower transfer of fluids and
    air/gasses.
