Title: Assessorverifier units
1(No Transcript)
2Assessor/verifier units
- A1 - Assess candidates using a range of methods
(accounts for 92 of all A Unit registrations) - A2 - Assess candidates performance through
observation - V1 - Conduct internal quality assurance of the
assessment process - V2 - Conduct external quality assurance of the
assessment process
3A1/V Units have improved practice
- The focus of the units have been about practice
rather than portfolios - The unit requirements have sent strong messages
about being part of a quality assurance network
- Centres have used the units as a tool for
analysing their systems and individual practice
4What centres tend to like about the A/V Units
- Evidence requirements are written prescriptively
guiding candidates more clearly - The focus on evidence of actual practice
- The internal verifiers involvement in supporting
assessors
5What a number of centres have difficulty with
- The prescriptiveness of the evidence
requirements for A1 and in particular the
requirements for - Individual unit assessment plans
- The depth of explanation to cover the methods of
assessment - Standardisation meetings
6What a number of centres have difficulty with
- The prescriptiveness of the evidence
requirements for V1 and in particular the
requirements for - Observation of assessment practice
- Agreeing assessor development plans
- Internal verification sampling plans
7What a number of centres have difficulty with
- Specific EV endorsement to achieve V1
- IV requiring evidence of preparing for and
agreeing EV Visits - The requirements for independent assessment of
A1/V1
8Assessment structure for Learning and Development
SVQs/AV Units
9A/V Units have influenced Awarding Body policy
- All SQA external verifiers have to work in line
with V2 regardless of their starting point - The SQA external verifier reporting system was
updated to accommodate V2 requirements - All previously qualified assessors and verifiers
of SVQs must prove they continually practice to
the A and V Unit standards
10SQAs refreshed policy
Assessors should Be working towards or have
achieved the A1 or A2 Standard and continue to
practice to that standard OR Have achieved D32
and/or D33 or TQFE/SE and possess CPD evidence of
practising to the A1 or A2 Standard
11SQAs refreshed policy
Internal verifiers should Be working towards or
have achieved the V1 Standard and continue to
practice to that standard OR Have achieved D34
and possess CPD evidence of practising to the V1
Standard
12Proof of practice
- Achieving A/V Units the assessor-candidates
evidence is formally assessed and verified
- Practising to A/V Unit Standard the qualified
assessor/verifier will prove his/her practice via
CPD/centre records
13Practising to the A/V Unit Standard
- This means
- Using the standards as a code of continual
practice - Making the activities described in Units a
habit -
14Exercise Conducting self-reviews
- In pairs/small groups, discuss the type of
evidence - a department or centre could put forward to prove
- it has the appropriate systems in place for an
- element of either A1 or V1
- As you discuss evidence, start to complete the
- Toolkit (middle column) for one element
- Time 20 minutes
15Closing the CPD loop
- It is recommended confirmation of practice is
provided through the internal verification
process (especially monitoring of assessment
practice records) - EVs will place more emphasis on also sampling CPD
records relating to assessment practice
16Using A Units as a code of practice the benefits
- Evidence gathering for A1/A2 will become a more
natural, easier process - Differences between those who have achieved
A1/A2, D Units or TQFE should reduce - Promotes opportunities for assessors to
standardise/sort out issues
17Evidence is still mostly paper-based at present
18However, evidence is beginning to look more like
this
