  react to it, it rouses us to anger, consoles us,
  perks us up, brings us down into gloom.

• Informative function Through His Word, God
  interprets man, his existence and history by
  giving meaning and direction to them. It is in
  this way that the Word teaches us.
• See 2 Tim 2 17)

• 2. Expressive function In the Bible, God also
  teaches us about Himself. He reveals to His
  intimate life to people whom He calls friends.
• See John 173

• 3. Appellative function God teaches and reveals
  Himself because He summons us to a response. That
  is why the truth of the Word of God is not to be
  known (conceptual view) but to be done.
• See Luke 1128 and Matthew 721

Some more important notes

• The Bible is not to be brought down to purely
  informative function. The Bible cannot be fully
  appreciated unless one enters into their passion.
  Eg. Hos 111-9
• Biblical Revelation is not a series of concepts
  but a Person speaking to us.

• The Spirituality of Listening. (not spirituality
  of reading!!!)
• 4. We engage in the Vital Reading of the Bible.
  We put our life experiences and convictions
  beside the Word of God.
