ganizations.htm
37
NO Activities Include
  • Implement strategies to promote/deliver diabetes
    awareness and education messages, interventions,
    products
  • Establish coalitions and partnerships (including
    DPCPs)
  • Develop/implement community-based interventions
    including lifestyle interventions
  • Promote/disseminate NDEP and local diabetes
    health care resources
  • Link to at least 2 DDT National Objectives
  • Assist health care providers in providing
    culturally/linguistically appropriate diabetes
    education and support

38
How do NOs collaborate with DPCPs?
  • Some examples
  • DPCPs are represented on NO coalitions (e.g.,
Papa Ola Lokahi, National Medical Association)
  • DPCPs provide support to NO programs (e.g.,
Connecticut DPCP Coordinator works closely with
    Khmer Health Advocates)
  • DPCPs may participate in NO Events (e.g., OK DPCP
participated in AAIPs Diabetes Today Training)
  • NOs (or their project sites) may participate on
DPCP Diabetes Advisory Councils (e.g., NASNs
    Albuquerque site)
  • NOs provide copies of their products to DPCPs
(e.g., National Alliance shared Juntos contra la
    diabetes Together Against Diabetes
    curriculum)

39
What are some ways DPCPs could collaborate with
NOs?
  • Participate in or provide support to NOs local
    coalitions (e.g., share data)
  • Invite NO representatives to participate in
    DPCP-led coalitions
  • Reach intended target audiences through
    NO-related efforts

40
Links Between NDEP and DPCPs
  • DPCPs are critical partners for NDEP and are a
primary target audience to use and help
    disseminate NDEP materials
  • DPCPs are asked to complete the NDEP Partnership
    Survey twice a year
  • DPCPs serve on selected NDEP work groups
  • DPCPs are charged with addressing all DDT
National Objectives NOs are charged with working
toward 2 or more of the DDT National Objectives

41
Links Between NDEP and DPCPs, (continued)
  • NDEP staff have provided TA to DPCPs, e.g.,
Diabetes at Work workshop for Puerto Rico DPCP,
    PA DPCP
  • Papa Ola Lokahi, an NDEP grantee, has provided TA
to DPCPs in the Pacific Island jurisdictions (and
helped facilitate a meeting with Pacific Island
    DPCPs on behalf of CDC/DDT)
