14YOU WILL HAVE YOUR OWN WEBPAGE
- This will be known as your homework hotline.
- Please update it regularly.
- You now have a manual, but you can always get the
user guide from the My Tools section. It is
pretty self-explanatory. - This will take the place of school notes.
15 Software you will need
- NONE! ARENT YOU EXCITEDjust kidding.
- We are now completely web-based, so that means
that you will only need the following programs
loaded on your computer!
16The Programs
- Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher
- Or Safari (mainly for Mac computers)
- Or Mozilla Firefox (very nice free product)
- Patience!
17Time is of the essence
- The biggest problem with websites, is TIME TO
WORK ON THEM. - Dont publish until you like it!
- You WILL regret it!
- DO NOT TRY TO FOCUS ON THE LOOK OF THE WEBSITE
MOST PARENTS JUST WANT THE BASIC INFORMATION!
Looks come with time.
18DESIGN
- Establish a style or personality for your page.
- Be creative
- At this time, we do NOT have background picture
or color capabilities
19Legal Issues
- All students posting information on the school
sites are REQUIRED to have the Press Release
Permission Slip for the Internet on file in your
classroom or the library. - You can get this Release form in the manual or
from your media person in your school. - We also have a new board policy on electronic
usage. Please read this very carefully as it
pertains to the pics that you post on the website
20Legal Issues Continued
- There are always 3 sets of eyes watching. ( Me,
your site administrator, and the parent!) - If I find content that the board may deem
unallowable, I will delete it immediately and let
you know. - For this reason, I suggest the following
21Teacher Pages
- Do not hyperlink to the following types of sites
- Gaming sites (these have lots of bad lang. on
their forums and can easily pick up viruses). - Violent sites (obviously)
- Any kind of site that you would be embarrassed if
an administrator walked in and saw them
accessing. - Sexual Sites (watch these carefully). Even
Britney Spears sites can be iffy. Photo Editing
is rampant these days. - Age-inappropriate sites for their web page.
- If you MUST place a link on their webpage, please
DO NOT let them link to anything that is not
educational. - Anything else you deem inappropriate, dont do
it. Please.
22Use an imaging software to reduce file size.
- File Size is becoming a HUGE problem.
- You are only allowed 1 Gigabyte of size on your
site. Guess what? This means no 1000 SIZE
pictures anymore! - You already have an images folder and place them
all there or make an images folder under EACH
folder and place them there. - EACH FILE SIZE MUST BE LESS THAN 1.0 MEGABYTE.
- Your site administrator can help you if you have
problems with this.
23My tools is where you build your page
Change your password often.
24YOUR WEBPAGE CONTINUED
- Once you create your webpage (you can start doing
that now from home or school), it will go live
automatically. - Once you save it, the parent can go to the
schools website and click on Teacher Websites
and there will be a drop-down menu and they can
click on your name. - PLEASE UPDATE THESE REGULARLY FOR HOMEWORK AND
TEST DATE PURPOSES BECAUSE WE SPENT A LOT OF
MONEY TO GIVE YOU THIS SERVICE!
