Success In Senior English
Success in Senior English requires hard work,
dedication, participation, preparation, and
anticipation.

Participation
How a student utilizes their time in Senior
English is crucial and vital to their success in
the course The students insights, participation,
findings, questions, and comments are respected,
and expected on a daily basis

Anticipation
Absentee Policy Being absent does not excuse a
student from any assignments It is the students
responsibility to find out what they have missed
and to complete the assignment and class
work The student is also responsible for being
prepared for class with the appropriate materials
every day I will be available every day after
school hours in order to assist with any
assignments and class work missed

Dedication
On a daily basis all 40 minutes of the period
will be used for the study and mastery of the
English language, composition, and literature

Grading and Homework Policy

Tests and Papers
Tests and Papers account for 40 of the final
semester grade There will be 9 tests per
semester and 4 major papers per semester The 4
papers fall under these categories College
Application Essay, Original Short Story,
Persuasive Letter, Literature based analytical
paper

Quizzes
Quizzes account for 25 of the final semester
grade Students should expect both announced and
unannounced quizzes

Class Work Class Participation
Class work and class participation account for
20 of the final grade These grades are
calculated daily

Research Paper
The Senior Research Paper accounts for 40 of
the final semester grade This grade only
includes the final paper, it does not include all
of the research process steps leading up to the
final copy The other steps are bibliography
cards, topic outline, note cards, sentence
outline, thesis statement, and rough draft Every
step leading up to the final paper will be
counted as a test grade

Homework Policy
Homework accounts for 15 of the final semester
grade In each semester the student may miss up
to 3 hw assignments without a penalty however,
if the student misses 4 or more assignments,
their final semester grade will be lowered
one-tenth of a point (-0.1) for each missing
assignment All hw must be complete and in class
on time in order to receive credit
