Title: Office of Institutional Effectiveness

1
Office of Institutional Effectiveness
  • Jodi Pettazzoni Director

2
Our Purpose is
  • To ensure that assessment of all learning and
    support services is ongoing.
  • The most important step in assessment is the Use
of Results, or the Action Plan.
  • Assessment must be seen as a continuous cycle.
  • Assessment is done best if all faculty teaching
    in a program are involved.

3
Assessment is
  • Continuously gathering data concerning student
learning and university functions, analyzing the
data, identifying ways to improve results, and
    implementing those improvements.
  • Done through assessment plans and reports, and
    data analysis.

4
And
  • By doing this we are able to
  • Evaluate outcomes and results to identify and
    address areas of improvement
  • Validate our accomplishments
  • Be accountable to our constituents
  • Remain accredited.

5
Institutional Effectiveness will
  • Assist in the development of academic and
    administrative assessment plans
  • Facilitate the University Assessment Committees
(UAC) review of all assessment plans
  • Administer assessment of the General Education
    Curriculum
  • Work with the QEP director to improve writing and
    speaking outcomes

6
And
  • Provide guidance, tools, and resources for
    assessment to the campus community
  • Administer the program review process
  • Keep up with changes in accreditation nationwide
  • Work with various departments on initiatives to
    improve students learning outcomes and
    opportunities at Southern Miss.

7
Specifically?
  • Prepare a Compliance Certification (a.k.a.
    SACS) Report annually
  • Implement institution-wide analysis, such as
Alumni Surveys and other data analysis
  • Get an inventory of technology and proficiency
    tests currently used
  • Begin an orientation process for departments
    conducting program reviews

8
And
  • Help us assess better by improving outcomes and
measures, to bring about real improvement
  • Ensure assessment occurs annually for programs
and GEC courses, and program reviews occur on a
    regular cycle
  • Revise the bulletin for easier use
  • Look for ways to improve the assessment process,
to remove duplication of data entry
