• This is the most important thought the paragraph

• It is a general statement.
• There is only one in each paragraph.

• Chiefs begin making personnel decisions
  for upcoming season.

• Sixth graders ready to tackle Stanford 9 Spring
  test.

Supporting Details

• These explain, prove, or tell more about the main
  idea.
• Supporting details are specific.
• There can be many supporting details.
• Dont use supporting details as your topic
  sentence.

• Coach Vermeil says, defense is the main priority
  for off-season personnel acquisitions.
• Dr. Schell, the current assistant principal, will
  succeed retiring principal, Mr. Kuenker.
• Snacks will be provided by PTA for students
  during the Stanford 9 testing dates.

Ending/Concluding Sentence

• Concludes all of the ideas within that paragraph.
• Restates the topic sentence using different
  words.
• Is the last sentence in the paragraph.

Sample paragraph

• These are things I have learned about
  circuits. Power has to flow from the positive to
  negative end in a complete path. Conductors are
  materials that electricity easily flows through.
  Insulators do not allow electricity to pass
  through them. This is what I have learned about
  circuits so far.
