Romans 64 Therefore we are buried with him by
baptism into death that like as Christ was
raised up from the dead by the glory of the
Father, even so we also should walk in newness of
life.KJV
35
Sprinkle? Pour? Overwhelmed, engulfed, totally
covered?
36
Acts 838-39
38 And he commanded the chariot to stand still
and they went down both into the water, both
Philip and the eunuch and he baptized him. 39
And when they were come up out of the water, the
Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip, that the
eunuch saw him no more and he went on his way
rejoicing. KJV
37
Matthew 316
16 And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up
straightway out of the water and, lo, the
heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the
Spirit of God descending like a dove, and
lighting upon him KJV
38
Importance of Baptism

  • John 35
  • 1 Peter 320-21

  • Acts 238
  • Luke 2447
  • Acts 1048

39

saved but he that believeth not shall be
damned. KJV
40
John 35
Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee,
Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit,
he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. KJV
41
1 Peter 320-21
20 Which sometime were disobedient, when once the
longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah,
while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that
is, eight souls were saved by water. 21 The like
figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save
us (not the putting away of the filth of the
flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward
God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ
42
Acts 2216
And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be
baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the
name of the Lord.
43

baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus
Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall
receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

of Jesus Christ. Then they asked Peter to stay
with them for a few days. NIV
46
THE THIEF ON THE CROSS?
  • Not a pattern for us to follow
  • Exception
  • Pentecost had not yet come
  • Testator had not yet died

47
Hebrews 916-17
16 For where a testament is, there must also of
necessity be the death of the testator. 17 For a
testament is of force after men are dead
otherwise it is of no strength at all while the
testator liveth. KJV
48
Does a name matter?
  • Doesnt matter whats said over you during
baptism, so long as you are sincere.
  • You believe you are saved by works, by what
vibrations come through a vocal chord of a man.
  • Thousands of Titles of God.

49
Acts 412
Neither is there salvation in any other for
there is none other name under heaven given among
men, whereby we must be saved.KJV
50
Acts 2216
And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be
baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on
the name of the Lord. KJV
51
Colossians 317
And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in
the name of the Lord Jesus... KJV
52
1 Corinthians 113-15
13 Is Christ divided? was Paul crucified for you?
or were ye baptized in the name of Paul? 14 I
thank God that I baptized none of you, but
Crispus and Gaius 15 Lest any should say that I
had baptized in mine own name. KJV
53
Acts 238
Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be
baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus
Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall
receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
54
Acts 815-16

them only they were baptized in the name of
the Lord Jesus.) KJV
55
Acts 1048
47 "Can anyone keep these people from being
baptized with water? They have received the Holy
Spirit just as we have." 48 So he ordered that
they be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ.
Then they asked Peter to stay with them for a few
days. NIV
56
Acts 193-5
3 So Paul asked, "Then what baptism did you
receive?" "John's baptism," they replied. 4
Paul said, "John's baptism was a baptism of
repentance. He told the people to believe in the
one coming after him, that is, in Jesus." 5 On
hearing this, they were baptized into the name of
the Lord Jesus. NIV
57
Canneys Encyclopedia of Religions
Person were baptized at first in the name of
Jesus Christ Afterwards, with the development
of the doctrine of the trinity, they were
baptized in the name of the Father, Son, and
Holy Ghost.
58
Hastings Dictionary of the Bible
The original form of words was into the name of
Jesus Christ or the Lord Jesus. Baptism into
the name of the trinity was a later development.

The New Testament knows only baptism in the name
of Jesus.

At first baptism was administered in the name of
Jesus, but later in the name of the triune God
Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
61
History of the Christian Church-by Williston
Walker
The trinitarian baptismal formula was
displacing the older baptism in the name of
Christ.
62
Interpreters Dictionary of the Bible
The evidence suggests that baptism in early
Christianity was administered, not in the
threefold name, but in the name of Jesus
Christ.
63
Encyclopedia of Religion Ethics
The formula used was in the name of the Lord
Jesus Christ or some synonymous phrase there
is no evidence for the use of the trine name.
64
Encyclopedia Britannica
The trinitarian formula and trine immersion were
not uniformly used from the beginning Baptism
into the name of the Lord was the normal formula
of the New Testament.
