sheep by name and leads them outand the sheep
follow him because they know His voice.

LISTENING TO GOD
  • Why is it that when we talk to God were said to
be praying, but when God talks to us were
    schizophrenic.
  • Lilly Tomlin

8
How God Teaches Us Some Basic Principles
1. We must believe God wants to talk. 2. We must
be committed to listening.
9
1 Samuel 310
Now the Lord came and stood there, calling as
before, Samuel! Samuel! And Samuel said,
Speak, for your servant is listening.
10
How God Teaches Us Some Basic Principles
1. We must believe God wants to talk. 2. We must
be committed to listening. 3. We learn best by
asking questions.
11
Luke 246
After three days they found him in the temple,
sitting among the teachers, listening to them and
asking them questions.
12
How God Teaches Us Some Basic Principles
1. We must believe God wants to talk. 2. We must
be committed to listening. 3. We learn best by
asking questions. 4. We must capture the learning
by writing it down.
13
Principle To Remember
What God teaches us is infinitely more
important than what any one person teaches us.
14
PRAYER PAUSE
  • He said, Go out and stand on the mountain
before the Lord, for the Lord is about to pass
by. Now there was a great wind, so strong that
it was splitting mountains and breaking rocks in
pieces before the Lord, but the Lord was not in
the wind and after the wind an earthquake, but
the Lord was not in the earthquake and after the
earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the
fire and after the fire the sound of sheer
    silence (I Kings 1911-12).

15
PRAYER PAUSE
  • Be Still and know that I am God!... (Ps.4610a).

16
PRAYER PAUSE
  • Quiet yourself before the Lord.
  • Attempt to get yourself to a point of sheer
    silence.
  • Clear your mind of all distractions
  • Listen for Gods voice in the silence.

    leading?
  • What is God saying to you?
  • What are you sensing? Hearing?

The Necessity of Starting New Churches

    population growth
  • New churches are more effective in evangelism
  • New things attract new people
  • New churches better engage a new culture
  • Church planting is biblical
  • New Churches provide more options for people

39
The Necessity
  • 7. New churches bridge the gaps between church
    and culture.
  • The generational gap
  • The racial/ethnic gap
  • The worldview gap

40
Modern Worldview
  • Truth is relative
  • The person is the center of the universe

41
Post Modern Worldview
  • Truth is constructed
  • Truth can ebb and flow

42
The Necessity of Existing Churches to Start
Churches
  • It is the most effective method of planting.
  • It is a natural outflow of evangelism
  • It is a natural outflow of being a healthy (fit)
    church
  • There are more people to reach than will come to
    the existing church

43
The Necessity to Start
  • 5. The resources for new churches are readily
    available.
  • 6. It empowers a church to be more missional
  • 7. Diversity of ministry can happen without
losing sight of the existing churchs call.

STRATEGIC EVANGELISM THROUGH CHURCH
MULTIPLICATIONPart Three
  • M2C PARTNERS RETREAT

48
FIVE METHODS
  • Public Affirmation
  • People connect with what they hear about
  • Passion dictates priority

49
FIVE METHODS
  • B. Prayer
  • Missional praying is projected outward
  • Missional praying is asking God to work
outside the walls of our church
  • Missional praying directed, outward focused,
    mobilizing prayer

50
Two Criteria Missional Praying
  • The church must have an evangelistic passion
  • The church must have a willingness to pray

51
FIVE METHODS
  • C. Promotion
  • This is a combination of public affirmation
    and prayer.
  • It is a churchs willingness to heighten the
corporate awareness of church planting and
    church planters.

52
FIVE METHODS
  • D. Provision
  • Three Areas
  • People
  • Finances
  • Real equity

53
FIVE METHODS
  • E. Permission
  • This is the willingness of the leader to
    encourage their people to give.
  • This is the willingness of the leader to
    release their people to go.

54
GOING CALLS
  • A vocational call
  • A seasonal call
  • A work team call

55
MODELS OF PARENTING
  • Unintentional
  • Definition The local church embraces a plant it
has not initiated with the goal of it becoming a
    growing, healthy multiplying church.

56
MODELS OF PARENTING
  • Intentional
  • Definition This is where a plan and strategy is
brought together in the life of a local
congregation through the prompting of the Holy
Spirit to birth a healthy, growing reproducing
    congregation.

57
13 MODELS
  • Daughtering
  • Partner
  • Cluster
  • Satellite
  • Multi-campus
  • Colonization
  • Other- language

58
13 MODELS
  • House church
  • Cell church
  • Niche church
  • Nesting
  • Church within a church
  • New paradigm

59
13 MODELS
  • It takes all kinds of churches to parent all
kinds of churches, using all kinds of models to
    reach all kinds of people.

60
  • Preparation Strategy

61
PREPARE THE PASTOR
  • You will have to overcome yourself.
  • Buildings
  • Bodies
  • Bucks

62
PREPARE THE PASTOR
  • 2. You must be willing to make incredible
    investments
  • Five Areas
  • Members
  • Money
  • Mud
  • Ministry resources
  • Momentum

63
PARENT IMPLEMENTATION WORKSHOPPart One
  • M2C PARTNERS RETREAT

64
  • The number one reason that change and transition
efforts fail in congregations is that they do
not engage in readiness activities before they
launch a change and transition process.
  • George Bullard, Jr.

65
PREPARE THE CONGREGATION
  • Consider your present situation.
  • When you may not be ready
  • A church is going through a major change
  • A church is spiritually immature
  • A church has a large number of
  • underdeveloped leaders
  • A church lacks reproducing systems
  • A church is in ill health

66
  • When a church is ready to parent
  • A burden for lost people
  • A willingness to step out in faith
  • A vision beyond itself
  • A spiritual maturity
  • A generous spirit
  • A people and leader willing to risk
  • A kingdom mindset

67
PREPARE THE CONGREGATION
  • 2. Have an end-result in mind
  • 3. Advance strategically
  • Key Principle Make preparations and wait for
    Gods timing.
  • 4. Negotiate the challenges
  • 5. Get the right people on board
  • 6. Evaluate your progress
  • 7. Show results

68
Why We Plant?
  • Youll never have to worry about making God mad
if you try to plant a church. It seems crazy to
me that people are under the delusion they need a
special calling to save souls, to disciple them,
and to get them together to love Jesus. Whatever
ministry you are with, you must understand one
thing Church Planting is not for us, it is for
God. We do it so God will have a people to
    worship Him.
  • (Floyd McClung, YWAM)

must start if we are ever going to succeed.
  • Things you have never experienced before.
  • The touch of Jesus like never before.

72
THE NEHEMIAH PRINCIPLE
  • It is in prayer burdens are birthed and plans are
    prepared.
  • Three responses
  • He could have ignored the problem
  • Location
  • Ability
  • Workload
  • Responsibility

73
  • Be ignited by the potential
  • Inquire through prayer
  • When I heard these things, I sat down and wept.
For some days I mourned and fasted and prayed
before the God of heaven (Neh.14)
