4Joint Declaration on the Protection of the Wadden
Sea (1982) to coordinate their activities and
measures to implement a number of international
legal instruments, amongst others, the Ramsar
Convention and the EU Bird Directive.
Ministerial Declaration, Esbjerg 2001 49 to
underline the importance of close cooperation
with regard to the Wadden Sea Area when
implementing the Water Framework Directive and,
because it is foreseen that the Wadden Sea Area
will be part of a number of adjacent River Basin
Districts for all of which separate River Basin
Management Plans have to be developed, to
establish an overview of how the trilateral
cooperation for the protection of the Wadden Sea
can assist in this task, taking into account,
inter alia, the identification of synergism and
the avoidance of duplicating work
81 to further optimize the TMAP for future
requirements, in particular with regard to the
Targets, the EU Habitats Directive and the EU
Water Framework Directive
5- To bring together people involved in
- the implementation of the EU Water Framework
Directive in the Wadden Sea and - the Trilateral Wadden Sea Cooperation / TMAP
- to exchange information and experiences,
To deal with the Wadden Sea as an ecological
entity taking into account the Joint Declaration
of the Wadden Sea states (1982), the Esbjerg
Declaration (2001, 48-49) and the requirements
of the EU Water Framework Directive,
To establish an operational information exchange
network for future activities.
6Tasks
1. Presentation of an actual overview of the
implementation status of the WFD and the
agreements of the Trilateral Cooperation in the
Wadden Sea (Wadden Sea Plan and TMAP).
2. What are the common grounds and differences
between WFD and Trilateral Cooperation (Wadden
Sea Plan, TMAP) and how to deal with these in
future in order to avoid double work and to
support mutual benefit and synergism ?
3. How to achieve that the WFD classification
procedure and the Wadden Sea Plan target
assessment will lead to comparable
interpretations and messages to policy and
management authorities ?
