2
Background of Fibonacci
  • Fibonacci was born in 1170 in Pisa, Italy.
  • He grew up with a North African education under
    the Moors.
  • Later he traveled around the Mediterranean coast.
  • Fibonacci died in 1250.
  • He did most of his work in Italy.

3
Interesting Facts
  • Fibonacci is known for having many names.
  • The names he is known as include Leonardo of
Pisa, Leonardo Pisano, Leonardo Bonacci, Leonardo
    Fibonacci, or most commonly Fibonacci.

4
Interesting Facts(Cont)
  • I think that Fibonacci having so many names is
very interesting because most people are only
known as one name. Sometimes people are known as
two but having so many names is very rare.

5
He is Famous for
  • Fibonacci is famous for being one of the first
people to introduce the Hindu-Arabic number
    system to Europe.
  • It is the system we use today, based on the 10
digits with its decimal point and a symbol for
    zero.

6
He is Famous for (Continued)
  • Fibonacci is most famous for his series of
    numbers called the Fibonacci sequence.
  • The sequence goes as follows 1,1,2,3,4,8,13 and
    so on.
  • This sequence is constructed by choosing the
first two numbers then assigning the rest by the
rule that each number be the sum of the two
    preceding numbers.

7
Sequence Seen In Nature
  • The Fibonacci sequence is seen in nature, in the
arrangement of leaves on a stem of plants, in the
pattern of sunflower seeds, spirals of snail's
shells, in the number of petals of flowers, in
the periods of planets of the solar system, and
    in stock market cycles.
