Batchelor Institute History

• Mid 60s Annex of Kormilda College (short course,
  teacher aides.)
• 1974 Move to Batchelor
• 1989 Recognised as a Higher-Ed institute.
• 1995 Moved away from the NT Dept of Education.
• 1999 Institute status.
• Campuses at Alice Springs and Batchelor.
• Annexes at Katherine, Tennant Ck, Parap and
  Nhulunbuy.
• 40 community study centres.

2003

• 3100 students - studying about 80 higher
  education and vocational education training
  courses, with over one-third of the students
  enrolled in higher education programs.
• Batchelor Institute currently enrolls more
  Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students at
  the higher education level than any other
  tertiary institution in Australia.
• Every current Indigenous Principal in the NT has
  been a Batchelor student?
