SITE

• Building material storage should be located in
  areas separated from other type storage
• Flammable materials should be stored in approved
  containers
• Smoking should be strictly controlled around the
  site

• Fire department should have access to the site at
  all times
• A public hydrant should be provided
• A fire alarm box or public telephone should be
  provided
• Construction offices should be located 50 ft.

NEW STRUCTURE

• Limit the amount of combustible materials
• Temporary building wiring for utility services
  should be installed
• Storage of flammable liquids in the structure
  should be discouraged

• Steel framework should be braced with temporary
  guywires
• When applying roof, flashing should be installed
  at the same time
• Tarpaulin and plastic sheeting used to cover
  openings should be mounted

CONSTRUCTION EQUIPMENT

• Tar and asphalt kettle for roofing work should be
  attended during use
• Area around the heater should be free of
  combustible waste
• Utilize units with wide bases

• Solid-fuel heaters and oil-fired salamanders
  should be prohibited

WORKER PRACTICES

• A safety program should be developed
• Smoking practices should be controlled
• Care should be exercised when pipe brazing,
  leading or using plastic pipe cement

• Keep area adjacent to operations free of
  combustibles and flammable
• Check area below work for sparks igniting
  materials
• Keep an extinguisher handy
• Check the work area

FIRE PROTECTION

• Temporary fire brigades should be organized for
  larger construction

• Portable fire extinguisher should be provided
• Building over several stories in height should
  have standpipe
• Installation of sprinkler system should keep pace
  with the progress of construction
