2
What is Cargo Container Tracking About?
  • Cargo Containers (Intermodal Container Chassis)
Transport more goods than any other mean of
    shipping in the world.
  • In 1997 the Commodity Flow Survey estimated
that 11 billion tons of goods worth 7 Trillion
    Dollars was transported via intermodal
    containers.
  • With such a reliance by industry and government
on this method of transportation there is little
ability to automatically check locations and
    status of various containers.
  • Ability for customers/companies to keep track of
containers and contents is greatly desired.
  • Expansion of world-wide wireless infrastructures
allows for successful integration of these ideas.

3
CCTS Project Goals
  • Our primary goal is to construct a prototype
transponder (mounted on containers) and gate
reader system by Spring of 2002
  • Ideally we would like to develop a standardized
system that can be developed to new and(or)
    retrofit applications
  • Additionally with the prototype be able to link
    to various commercially available database
    programs using existing internet connections
  • Ideally prototype systems can be constructed
    using off-the-shelve components and development
    kits

4
Market Place Information
  • Currently there is demand in industry for such
    tracking systems
  • Customers demand accountability and information
    from the shipping industry.
  • Currently there are little automated or uniform
methods of determining container locations other
    than manual inspection and cataloging.
  • Target Marketplace
  • Shipping and Transport companies who need
accurate and reliable information on where
    customers goods are located
  • Container Leasing companies who desire to keep
    track of their assets

5
Economic End Results
  • Business Model
  • Ideally a model that integrates development costs
and allows the formulation of successful approach
in which product production can proceed
  • SEED Analysis
  • Use SEED model systems to evaluate best design
    choice based on development costs.
  • Use SEED for Venture capital. By evaluating cash
flow statements, income statements and balance
sheets, venture capital investor can be attracted
by the projects ability to return on an
    investment.
  • Break Even analysis and Product Pricing
    Guidelines
  • By evaluating the potential market size and
customer base, an accurate pricing structure can
be developed that is sensitive towards customers
needs as well as product profitability concerns.
  • Sensitivity Analysis
  • Because of the fluidity of the transportation
market. How does the change of certain inputs
affect the overall analysis on price, volume and
    capital?
