CDT Carbohydrate Deficient Transferrin

• The transferrin is an iron-transporting
  glycoprotein.
• It is made up of a chain of polypeptides and two
  polysaccharide chains ended by sialic acid
  residues.
• The human transferrin comprises several
  isoforms. Each one has a different mobility
  according to its sialic acid content . The
  tetrasialo transferrin is the prevalent isoform
  for a subject in good health.

• The CDT is present under different isoforms
• - Hexasialo 1
• - Pentasialo 15
• - Tetrasialo 80
• - Trisialo 2,5
• - Less sialylated lt 1,3
• ( Less sialylated means 2 and 0 sialo the mono
  sialo is not detectable)
• Abusive and repeated alcohol consumption modifies
  the isoforms distribution
• Increase of the less sialylated isoforms
  disialo and asialo transferrin.
• It is the reflect of the alcohol impregnation
  during one or two weeks before the blood collect

• The methods for current analysis of the CDT are
  time consuming
• and not very well adapted to routine analysis
• Immunochemical determinations after
  anion-exchange chromatography
• Capillary electrophoresis with a mono capillary
  instrument.
