Title: BEGINNINGS OF MUSIC
1BEGINNINGS OF MUSIC
2EARLY SOUNDS AND INSTRUMENTS
3The world has always been filled with sound.
4BEGINNINGS OF SOUND
- Primitive peoples were surrounded by the many
sounds of nature the scream of an animal, the
roar of a waterfall, the gurgle of a brook, or
the whistle of the wind.
5BEGINNINGS OF SOUND
- Many of the early sounds caused fear in the
listener. The growl of an unknown animal or a
violent crack of thunder was frightening.
6Animals, also, could be frightened by sound.
People soon found that by banging sticks and
stones together, animals could be scared away.
7Victory Songs
When the enemy fled, these sounds would rise to
shouts of joyous celebration. The noise of
celebration was one of the first types of music
ever made.
