EARLY SOUNDS AND INSTRUMENTS
3
The world has always been filled with sound.
4
BEGINNINGS OF SOUND
  • Primitive peoples were surrounded by the many
sounds of nature the scream of an animal, the
roar of a waterfall, the gurgle of a brook, or
    the whistle of the wind.

5
BEGINNINGS OF SOUND
  • Many of the early sounds caused fear in the
listener. The growl of an unknown animal or a
violent crack of thunder was frightening.

6
Animals, also, could be frightened by sound.
People soon found that by banging sticks and
stones together, animals could be scared away.
7
Victory Songs
When the enemy fled, these sounds would rise to
shouts of joyous celebration. The noise of
celebration was one of the first types of music
ever made.
