    university form a team
  • with two exceptions Mosdos (Hungary) and Samara
    (Russia)
  • possible associated new partnerUniversity of
    Education inBaja (Hungary)

5
Justification
  • Situation of the sick child and her or his
    family
  • multifold disadvantages of sick children
  • physical and psychic stress
  • removal from home
  • family and financial worries
  • removal from class
  • loss of social contact to peers
  • reduced period of instruction
  • general impairment of education
  • need of re-integration
  • Pupils who, because of long or repeated periods
of absence or the stress resulting from the
illness, have a special need for support

6
Justification
  • A lot is being done to ease the situation of the
sick child in hospital and in hospital schools.
  • However, there are shorter periods of
    hospitalisation.
  • Things might look different when it comes to
re-integration into their homes and home schools
  • What about the understanding of the class mates?
  • Do teachers in the home schools know how to
    handle the situation?
  • Do teachers of regular schools have at least
minimal knowledge about the disease and about the
social and psychological situation the sick child
    is in?
  • Have they at all been trained to cope
    appropriately with the situation?

7
Justification
  • Since the basic situation cannot be avoided
  • all steps should be undertaken to ensure a
minimum of friction and conflict on reintegration
    in the school class
  • it becomes necessary to compensate as far as
    possible for the obvious disadvantages
  • This group of pupils tends to be small in number
    and therefore generally represents individual
    cases within the school.
  • Some teachers might never have had a chronically
or severely sick child in one of their classes.
  • However for reasons of equality of treatment and
equality of chance this small group should not be
    neglected.

8
Target groups
  • Main target group teachers of regular schools
  • Secondary target group teachers of hospital
    schools
  • Parents and families of affected children and
adolescents, and the parents of non-affected
    children and adolescents
  • Indirect target group(chronically) sick
    children

9
Overall Aims
  • Primarily focussing on teachers in regular
schools it is the aim of the project
  • to increase the teachers professional competence
in order to ensure a minimum of friction and
conflict on reintegration in the school class
  • to offer teachers of regular schools quick and
    comprehensive information on specific illnesses
    their pupils might suffer from
  • to help teachers of regular schools to consider
the relevant pedagogic and psychological aspects
  • to improve the necessary co-operation between
    regular schools and hospital- schools
  • to increase the teachers competence in dealing
    with sick pupils

10
Specific Aims
  • The overall aims shall be attained by
  • Development of material for information,
continued training and teaching, in order to meet
the training requirements of teachers regarding
supervision, counselling and teaching of these
    pupils with special pedagogic needs
  • There will be two sets of disease oriented
material (example of student work on dialysis)
  • Development of a Virtual clinic for the use of
teachers in class as well as for children
