• A Foreign exchange student from Albania
• Three years ago he had appendicitis and received
  Chloramphenecol for treatment
• He was hospitalized with some illness on
  November 1999

Clinical Signs Symptoms

• - Decline in energy
• - Nosebleeds
• - Bleeding gums
• - Bruises
• - Blood in urine
• - Extremely lowered platelet count

- CBC Hb 6 g/dl Hct 16 - WBC
count 1,000 cells/cu.mm - Platelet count
29,000 cells/cu.mm - RBC count 1,000,000
cells/cu.mm

Diagnosis

• Aplastic anemia
• Caused by side effect of chloramphenecol
  when treated appendicitis

platelet count - ATG (Anti-Thymocyte Globulin )
Reduced T-lymphocytes - Cyclosporin
Magnesium (IV) Inhibit activity of
T-lymphocyte

Hb 14.8 g/dl Everything
looks normal and Ilir is leading a very normal
life
