Where are the connections?
  • Art in physics
  • Physics in art
  • Similar patterns in physics and art

4
1. Art in physics
  • Patterns, patterns, patterns.
  • Diffraction, interference, turbulent flow,
  • shockwaves, absorption and emission spectra,
  • collions pictures from LEP, cloud and
  • bubble chamber pictures
  • Electrostatic and magnetic fields
  • (see later 3-D MODELS)
  • The beauty is always there!!

2. Physics in art
  • The theory of diffraction in the work of the
pointillism painters. (The role of the
observer!! Colors change with the distance of the
observer to the painting) Manet, Seurat
  • Strange equilibrium in some sculptures Caesare
  • Oscillations, standing waves S. Van Aerschot
  • Archimedes law V. Janssen, S. Van Aerschot
  • Attraction and repulsions with magnets/electromagn
    ets Takis, B.Gray
  • Fluiddynamics Riley

3. Similar patterns between physics and art
  • Sometimes a scientist is inspired by arts
  • e.g. Scientist/engineers kinetic art
  • e.g. Lorenzo Cimadevila Margarita, A. Calder
  • Sometimes an artist is inspired by sciences
  • Panamarenko
  • Coincidence in similarity?
  • Diffractionpatterns Vasarely
  • Emission/absorptionspectra Rothko
  • Collisionpatterns Art Robotica

Where are my connections?

My work
  • 3- D Magnetic and Electrostatic Field Pattern
    Models Birth 1994
  • Expected lifetime a schoolcarreer??
  • 3- D Diffraction, interference patterns
  • Paintings of light diffraction patterns
  • New work inspirated by the HST program

Use?
  • Use 1 to make the classroom more attractive,
    artfull, alive.
  • Use 2 as a break after doing measurements s.a.
tracking fieldlines by measuring the voltage
between different elektrodes playing with clay
and wire, being creative and inventive
  • Use 3 while doing exercises pupils can take the
models and find out more easily how to draw some
    vectors (excersises with the Lorentz-force)
  • Use 4 As an extra help to memorize.

21
Can fyslets replace them?
  • Yes, for the visual apect.
  • No, for the physical contact!!!
  • Feeling
  • Touching
  • Holding
  • Hugging
  • Squeezing .. (with another magnet of
    course)

22
Bubble chamber pictures
  • I hope the pictures will keep on bubbling my
    inspiration and creativity!
  • THANK YOU Gron!!
