EPA AND BROWNFIELDS

• In 1995, EPA begin to address these sites through
  Brownfields Demo Pilot Projects.
• Begin by providing small amounts of seed money to
  local governments/entities that launched hundreds
  of two-year brownfields "pilot" projects.

BROWNFIELDS ASSESSMENT DEMONSTRATION PILOT
PROJECTS

• EPA provided funding through the brownfields
  assessment grants. (demo projects)
• FBIC received a 2-year grant to address
  brownfields sites

FORT BELKNAP BROWNFIELDS PROGRAM

• FBIC prioritized sites to be assessed through an
  environmental site assessment (ESA).
• ESA consisted of phase I, II and III
• FBIC contracted an Environmental Firm to conduct
  an ESA.

• Army Corp of Engineers operated a rock quarry
  operation in the 1930s to remove rock for
  rip-rap during the construction of the Fort Peck
  Dam
