3What is Licence Plate?
- Licence Plate is a new ISO approved format for
uniquely identifying parcels / packages. - It has been developed with input from a broad
range of industries for use in monitoring the
whereabouts status of parcels in the supply
chain.
4Why are we making this change?
- The various companies that came together under
the new DHL Express had different systems
processes. One of these is the type of identifier
for tracking tracing. As part of our
integration programme we have decided to adopt a
common identifier to simplify processes enable
us to move shipments throughout our network with
full visibility. - Some customers have also requested that we be
able to manage their Licence Plates. DHL is keen
to respond to customer demands. - What functionality / benefits will be gained?
- The ability to process customers own Licence
Plates - Cradle to Grave parcel identity, particularly
useful in shipments that make more than one
journey. E.g. Repair Return. - What functionality will be lost?
- Unlike the 12 digit Parcel Numbers used in the
Day Definite Domestic network, it will no longer
be possible to tell the type of service from
Licence Plates. Our systems have been adjusted to
give this visibility both internally soon
externally.
5How will it be used in DHL?

6How will customers be migrated to the new Licence
Plate?
- Manual Label Customers

labels. Some of these labels have two services so
the customer must select the service required by
ticking the relevant box. When we go live our

send out the new labels with a covering letter. - High volume customers can order pre Pre-ticked
labels for the following services - Time Definite By 12 Noon (see page 9)

15How will customers be migrated to the new Licence
Plate?
- Manual Label Customers
- From November we will start to fulfil label

will accompany these orders. To avoid wastage
please use all old labels and place your order as
you would normally.
16How will customers be migrated to the new Licence

- Trans IT Customers
- Following successful testing DHL will embark on a
programme to replaced Trans IT systems with the
new Easyship 5.1 which will use Licence Plates. - It is also worth noting that a new system called
Intraship is now available for both Domestic Day
Definite International Time Definite shipments.
This uses Licence Plates as the shipment
identifier.
17How will customers be migrated to the new Licence
Plate?
- Link (EDI) Customers
- We are starting to approach all Link customers to
request that they convert to Licence Plate

clear guidance on what is required. Some
customers have already started this process.

responsibility to select the service level. The
service highlighted below with a cross will be
the default service provided. - Q. I have sent a shipment to the Highlands
Islands it was not delivered Next Day. I
selected next day on the label. Why? - A. A shipment being sent to the Highlands
Islands will have varying transit times dependant
on the collection delivery address. We do not
