2Objectives of the Minor
- Encourage and develop the technopreneurship
potential of our undergraduate from the various
- faculties
- Enhance our graduates contributions to the
- economy by equipping them with the knowledge
- of the processes and mechanisms by which new
- ideas can be commercialised in the
market, - whether within an organisation or as
an - independent entrepreneur
3Eligibility
- Undergraduates on the modular system
- Arts and Social Sciences
- Business School
- School of Computing
- Design and Environment
- Engineering
- Science
4Students are required to read 6 of the listed
modules in order to receive a Minor in
Technopreneurship
- At least 4 Modules offered by NEC
- a. TR2201 Entrepreneurial Marketing
- b. TR2202 Technological Innovation
- c. TR3001 New Product Development
- TR3002 New Venture Creation
- TR3009 New Venture Consulting Practicum
5At most 2 of the following 3 modules which are
available at the respective faculties
- MNO1001/BH1001 Management Organisation or
CS1303 Principles of Management or its - equivalent
- b. FNA1002/FNA1002E/BH1002 Financial Accounting
or CS1304 Accounting or its equivalent - c. EC 1101E Microeconomics 1 or EC1310
Principles of Economics or its equivalent

7What the course is about
- Introduction to the core concepts of marketing
- Special emphasis on the marketing of new,
innovative products and services - Emphasis on market research methods, marketing
strategies, pricing analysis and promotional
techniques that are particularly useful for
entrepreneurial settings - Innovative use of the internet and
non-conventional techniques such as guerrilla
marketing

- Andrew Ng is an Adjunct Asst Prof at the National
University of Singapore's Entrepreneurship Centre - Received an MBA from the National University of
Singapore and A member of The Chartered Institute
of Marketing in the United Kingdom - Mr Ng is the founder and CEO of Greater China
Consult - He was the Area Vice President (Asia Pacific) of
Schwan Stabilo. Prior to working with Schwan
Stabilo for the last 8 years, he spent 10 years
in the high technology industry as Managing
Director for Control Data Corporation (CDC) and
Seagate Technology

- Help students develop a strong conceptual
foundation for understanding the dynamic process
of technological innovation - Introduce to the importance of technological
innovation - Expose to the challenges in technological
innovation - Examine technological innovation within existing
organizations as well as through new start-ups

- Kwanghui Lim is an Assistant Professor at NUS
Business School in National University of
Singapore - Graduated from the National University of
Singapore with First Class Honours in B. Eng
(Electrical) and received an Ph.D., Management of
Technological Innovation and Entrepreneurship
from Massachusetts Institute of Technology - He was a Consultant at Booz-Allen Hamilton
(1991-1993) - Teaching Experience
- Fall 2001 Visiting Assistant Professor, MIT
Sloan School - 1995-2000 Teaching Assistant for several courses

- Sarah Cheah
- BEng (Hons), NUS and MBA (Banking Finance), NTU
- More than 12 years of working experience in the
IT industry - Worked as senior Business Development Manager and
Solution Architect with leading global IT
solutions provider - Worked as Technical Account Manager with listed
leading US enterprise content management software
company. - Played advisory role in Trade Development Board
(now known as IE Singapore) to promote bilateral
trade and investment between Singapore and
Greater China in the technology sector

- John Bauly, B.Sc(Hons), MS.c, Ph.D. FIEE,
FIMechE, NPDP. - Senior Visiting Fellow in Faculty of Engineering
- More that 25 years track record as senior line
manager/director for RD, new product development
and business management for MNCs and small
companies in Europe, USA and Japan. Activities
include aircraft engines, power stations,
telecoms IT automotive, industrial
residential products, postal automation,
mechanical handling and inkjet printing. - 5 year consultancy experience in business process
re-engineering including set up of new product
development association for industry in the UK in
collaboration with UK Dept. of Trade Industry - 6 years teaching experience at NUS on
technopreneurship subjects at undergraduate and
post graduate level, and also 1 semester as
adjunct consultant at Cambridge University.

- Understanding the process of new product
development - Understanding the nature of successful products
and portfolios - Awareness of the roles of various functions in
creating a new product ( for example marketing,
industrial design, engineering, and production)
16About the lecturer
- Neo Kok Beng
- B.Eng (Electrical) with Upper Honours from NUS,
and MBA from Nanyang Business School, NTU. - General Manager of InfoWave Pte Ltd, a
joint-venture company of Singapore Technologies
Electronics, Trek 2000 and Melodeon. He is also
Chairman and Chief Incubator at Incubators_at_Work!,
a 20 million Hi-Tech Intrapreneurship Venture
Fund of Singapore Technologies.

- Co-Requisite Must be taken in conjunction with
TR3001 - Alternative is offered for those who are
interested in Bio-medical science orientation

- Help students understand the process, challenges,
risks and rewards of starting up a new business - Equip them with the tools required to start their
own business - Improve their chances of successfully starting
their own business - Develop entrepreneurial skills which can be used
in any business environment - from start-up to
corporate
19About the lecturer
- Douglas Abrams is an Adjunct Associate Professor
at the National University of Singapore's Centre
For Entrepreneurship - Graduated from the Annenberg School, University
of Pennsylvania with a BAs in Communications and
received an MBA from The Wharton School - Co-manages the private equity business of
Parallax Capital Management - Prior to joining Parallax, Mr. Abrams managed
information technology at J.P.Morgan for 13 years - From 1997 to 1999, he was Global Markets Head of
Internet Marketing. - From 1991 to 1997, he was VP and Manager of
Investment Banking Technology (IB)

- Mr Liew Shin Liat holds a B.Sc (Hons) degree in
Chemistry from the former Nanyang University, and
an MBA from the International Institute for
Management Development (IMD), Lausanne
Switzerland - Was a Vice President/ Director with Ernst Young
Consultants for 13 years, specializing in
strategy development, supply chain and channel
marketing management as well as business process
redesign

- Currently the President of LSL Partners
Consulting, a company that provides regional
management consulting services. - Consulted and conducted training programs for
senior executives at various universities (such
as Tsinghua), industry associations (such as
China Grouping Company Promotion Association) and
some state-owned Enterprises in China
24Application Process
With the implementation of the Centralised
On-Line Registration System (CORS), students who
wish to take the Minor in Technopreneurship will
have to bid for our TR modules on-line. Students
need not fill in any application form. Please
