Karen Hoh was appointed as managing director of
Edelman in Malaysia in March 2004, following the
merger between her own public relations
consultancy and Edelman. Prior to joining Edelman
in Malaysia, Karen spent six years building her
own public relations consulting business, after
the employee buyout of Burson-Marsteller in
Malaysia. She was with Burson-Marsteller for
nine years before the buyout, her last position
there as Managing Director of the company in
Malaysia. Over the years, Karen has worked with
dozens of organisations from different industry
sectors to develop and implement results-oriented
corporate and marketing communications campaigns.
Her career includes cross-market experience in
Beijing, Taipei and Kuala Lumpur. The industry
sectors range from fast-moving consumer goods and
financial services to healthcare and information
technology. Karen brings broad and deep
knowledge and experience specifically in the
healthcare (consumer and pharma) and IT
(software, hardware, services) sectors, as her
primary focus has been in those two sectors.
Healthcare and IT clients in her portfolio
include Alcatel, Microsoft, Motorola, Nortel
Networks, and Qualcomm and AstraZeneca, Aventis,
Colgate, JJ, Organon and Wyeth. Karen has
provided counsel to her clients on engaging
ministries and government agencies to partner on
corporate, education and community affairs
campaigns. Among the government bodies are
Ministry of Education Ministry of Domestic Trade
and Consumer Affairs Ministry of Women and
Family Development Ministry of Health and the
former Ministry of Communication and
Multimedia. Since 2000, Karen has been invited as
a guest speaker on numerous occasions by INTAN,
the national training institute for the public
sector, to speak on How To Face The Media at
their quarterly three-week management course for
senior government officials, Building and
Preparing Top Leadership Capabilities for the New
Millennium. Karen was educated in Malaysia,
England and the United States. She spent one
year in Taiwan, learning Chinese.
