Title: What am I

1
What am I?
  • Organisms to identify using your dichotomous key

2
THIS DIVERSE GROUP OF ANIMALS DO NOT HAVE
VERTEBRAE
3
  • Most primitive of all invertebrates
  • Variety of shapes, sizes, and colors
  • Porous sessile are two of my characteristics
  • Filter feeders
  • Have no organs

1
4
  • JUST A WORD ABOUT SYMMETRY.
  • If an organism has body parts that repeat around
an imaginary line drawn through the center of
their body.. We call this RADIAL symmetry.
  • If an organism can be divided into two mirror
images, which means it most likely has a head
tail, front, back We call this BILATERAL
    symmetry.

5
2
  • Anterior and posterior end
  • both mouth and anus present
  • body has sections, or true segments

6
3
We all LIVE UNDER THE SEA
Our bodies are covered with a hard, spiny, or
leathery covering. There are two openings in our
digestive system
7
  • radial symmetry
  • single opening in digestive cavity
  • sac like animals with stinging cells and
    tentacles
  • no organs present

4
8
5
I have no segments in my body, but have a well
developed digestive system with two openings
many animals in this phylum are parasites!!!
9
6
Often called flatworms have a digestive system
with only one opening simplest animals with
heads often are parasitic
10
7
  • Largest and most diverse phylum
  • key characteristics are jointed appendages and
    exoskeleton made of chitin

11
8
  • Soft bodied animals that often have an
    unsegmented shell
  • Most are aquatic but a few are terrestrial

12
  • WHAT IS A VERTEBRATE ANIMAL?
  • HAVE A NOTOCHORD EARLY IN THEIR DEVELOPMENT THAT
IS REPLACED BY A STRONGER SUPPORTING STRUCTURE
    CALLED A VERTEBRAL COLUMN.
  • THIS IS MORE COMMONLY KNOWN AS A BACKBONE

The rest of the animals in this classification
activity have vertebrae.
13
  • We feed on blood and body fluids, or even dead
    and decaying carcasses
  • as odd as it may seem, we have no jaws
  • no paired fins or scales

9
14
10
  • Bony skeleton
  • gills covered by a bony operculum
  • most have swim bladder to control buoyancy

15
11
  • Skin with scales
  • use lungs to breathe
  • ectotherm (depend on external heat source)

16
12
  • Skeleton made of cartilage
  • no swim bladder (increase buoyancy by storing
large amounts of oil in liver)
  • no bony gill cover present(operculum)

17
13
  • We have
  • aquatic and terrestrial stages in our lives
  • no protective covering on our skin
  • toes (if present) usually lack claws

18
14
We are endotherms, which means we can regulate
our body temperature by metabolic processes
front limbs are wings mouth has beak
19
15
At least some part of our bodies are covered with
hair young are fed milk specialized teeth
present

Bonus..
How would I be classified?
