Title: Sunday School Class
1Welcome Sunday School Class
2Something To Think About
- The discourse delivered from the summit of the
Mount of Olives is preeminently prophetic. It is
the focus of this lesson. Like a great deal of
prophecy, the Olivet prophecies foreshadow both
imminent events as well as distant events.
3The Gospel Of Mark
- John Mark, the son of a believer named Mary and
nephew of Barnabas, wrote the gospel of Mark - A lot of what Jesus said in this chapter points
to the overthrow of the city of Jerusalem, the
burden of His teaching was the unfolding drama of
the larger picture, the return of Christ and the
end of the church age.
4Lesson Objectives
- To reassure us of the coming distress
- To arouse our burden for the unsaved
- To awaken ourselves to the coming of the Lord
5- FORWARD TO THE FUTURE
-
- Mark
- Chapter 13
6KEY VERSE Mark 1323 But take ye heed
behold, I have foretold you all things.
7- THE REALITY OF FUTURE TROUBLES
- Mark 131-23
- Temple of Doom (1-4)
- Matthew 2338-39 John 220 181
- A Reminder of Persecution (5-13)
- An Abomination of Desolation (14-23)
- Revelation 714 Daniel 927 1131 1211
- 2 Thessalonians 23-4
8One of the primary truths emerging from this
passage is the absolute certainty of divine
judgment. The Jews rejected Gods messengers and
tampered with His message for centuries. Finally
they rejected His Son and sealed their doom.
Josephus estimates the number of dead at more
than one million and the captives at 97,000. The
horror was multiplied because the siege came at
the time of the Passover, when hundreds of
thousands of Jews from other places were in
Jerusalem.
9- THE RETURN OF OUR LORD
- Mark 1324-31
- Celestial Changes (24-27)
- Luke 2124 Hebrews 114
- Signs of the Time (28-31)
10- All Christians are not in total agreement about
some aspects of Christs return, but of one thing
there is total agreementHE IS COMING AGAIN!
There is also general agreement that it will be
sudden, visible, universal, and unpredictable,
and that it will be accompanied by world
cataclysmic events. Glorious Day!
11- THE READINESS OF THE SAINTS
- Mark 1332-37
- Uncertain of Time, But Informed (32-34)
- Luke 240, 52 Hebrews 58
- Philippians 25-8
- Uncertain of Time, But Alert (35-37)
12- These parables make three very plain statements
about Christs return the certainty of His
coming, our uncertainty as to the exact time of
His coming, and what we should do while we wait.
13- QUESTIONS FOR STUDY AND DISCUSSION
- Name and briefly relate the two parables Jesus
told that focused on His return. What one truth
did each parable convey? - 2. What is the main difference between the
premillennial interpretation of this chapter and
the amillennial interpretation? - 3. On what points do the two schools of
interpretation agree?
14- 4. What should be our attitude toward those who
hold a different millennial view? - 5. How does living ones life in anticipation of
the Lords return dictate how one lives?
