3Population Census History of Mongolia
- During the 20th century Mongolia has conducted
nine population censuses in 1918, 1935, 1944,
1956, 1963, 1969, 1979, 1989 and 2000 - 1969, 1979 and 1989 censuses were developed in
accordance with methodologies recommended by
Commission of Economic Mutual Assistance for
socialist countries. Main features of these
censuses - Population censuses and housing censuses were
conducted together - UN recommendation on periodicity
42000 Population and Housing census
- 2000 census was the first census after adapting
to a market economy - 2000 census was conducted in accordance with UN
Principles and Recommendations for Population
and Housing Censuses - First time, rich information on migration were
collected - First time, census materials were processed using
personal computers and international standard
software.
52000 Population and Housing census
- First time, the post-enumeration survey was
conducted - Broad-based census advocacy and publicity were
conducted compared with the previous censuses - Output tables extracted from the census were
consistent with international standards
