1DEVELOPMENT OF A GEOGRAPHICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL
INFORMATION SYSTEM OF THE INDUSTRIAL AREAS OF
REGION OF PELOPONNESE, GREECE
REGION OF PELOPONNESE
2OVERVIEW
- The target
- Information sources
- GIS Implementation
- GIS Analysis
3THE TARGET
- The ECOSIND project aims to establish a strategy
of continuous industrial development through the
principles of Industrial Ecology ? - Reduce of consumption of natural resources
(water, energy and materials) and industrial
wastes, through the cooperation among industries
and the reuse of wastes? - To this direction, the development of a GIS plays
a catalytic role, while it facilitates the
planning and environmental management of
industrial land of Peloponnese.
4INFORMATION SOURCES
- Many heterogeneous and diffused geographical and
environmental information were made compatible
and interoperable in order to be integrated - Surveying maps of Geographical Services
- Aerial photographs
- Satellite images
- Analogical maps
- Information concerning industrial areas and
activities - Information concerning environment
5GIS IMPLEMENTATION (i)
- The System consists of three differential parts
- A) The digital map of the whole Region of
Peloponnese, that contains geographical data and
the industrial areas - (at 1250.000 scale)
- B) The database concerning specifically the three
defined industrial areas of Peloponnese (2 in
Messinia and 1 in Arkadia) (at 125.000 scale) - C) The database of three representative
industrial estates, one for each defined
industrial area. (at 15.000 scale)
6GIS IMPLEMENTATION (ii) The map of the whole
Region of Peloponnese (Part A)
- Thematic layers represented
- Coastline
- Classified road network
- Railway network
- Classified hydrographic network
- Regions, Prefectures, municipalities
(geopolitical bounds) - Classified residential areas
- Industrial areas
- Protected Environmental areas (Natura)
7GIS IMPLEMENTATION (iii)The map of the whole
Region of Peloponnese (Part A)
- The digital map follows technical requirements
- Clean topology
- Contiguity
- A set of metadata
- The database of the industrial areas includes the
following information fields - Name of the industrial area
- Geographical location of the industrial areas
central point (geographical coordinates) - Prefecture
- Town
- Nearby protected areas or areas of natural
interest
8GIS IMPLEMENTATION (iv)The map of the whole
Region of Peloponnese (Part A)
9GIS IMPLEMENTATION (v)Focusing around an
industrial area (Part A)
10GIS IMPLEMENTATION (vi)The three defined
industrial areas (Part B)
- Creation of three maps presenting these three
industrial areas - Sperhogeias (Prefecture of Messinia)
- Meligala (Prefecture of Messinia)
- Tripolis (Prefecture of Arcadia)
- Creation of database including spatial,
environmental and economic information - Predominating industrial activity
- Number of employees
- Accessibility
- Water availability
- Energy consumption
- Noise or emission problems
- Selective or wastewater collection and energy
saving systems
11GIS IMPLEMENTATION (vii)The three defined
industrial areas (Part B)
- Partial representation of the industrial areas
locations
12GIS IMPLEMENTATION (viii)Building the Database
for the industrial areas (Part B)
13GIS IMPLEMENTATION (ix)Three representative
industrial estates (Part C)
- Production of three maps presenting three
representative industrial estates, one for each
defined industrial area - ???????G??? ????S???O? ?.?. (Industrial area of
Sperhogeia) - ????????G??? ?.?. (Industrial area of Meligala)
- ?.?. "?. ???????S - S. ???????????S - ?????G?S??
????? (Industrial area of Tripolis) - Production of database including more detailed
spatial, environmental and economic information
14GIS IMPLEMENTATION (x)Representative industrial
estate of Tripolis (Part C)
15GIS ANALYSIS
- The stored data facilitates
- Spatial analysis (proximity of industrial areas
to hydrographical network, protected or built-up
areas) - Statistical analysis (concerning emissions,
productivity indexes etc) - Industrial management (activities)
- Environmental management (impacts, emissions,
waste types, waste management etc)
