14Stars (sung to Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star)
Twinkle, twinkle, little star, I know what you
really are Giant ball of glowing gas, One of
billons in a mass! Twinkle, twinkle, little
star, Oh, how big you really are!
Twinkle, twinkle, giant star, Larger than the
Earth by far! Since your distance is a lot, You
look like a tiny dot. Twinkle, twinkle, giant
star, Very bright, yet very far!
Stars are twinkling, every one, Some are bigger
than the sun! Just a twinkle in the sky, Just
because youre oh, so high! Twinkle, twinkle,
little star, Oh, how big you really are!

27SOLAR SYSTEM IN MOTION (sung to the tune of The
Farmer in the Dell)
The Earth turns around, The Earth turns
around. Once a day, every day, The Earth turns
around.
The moon goes round the Earth, The moon goes
round the Earth. Once a month, every month, The
moon goes round the Earth.
The Earth goes round the sun, The Earth goes
round the sun. Once a year, every year, The Earth
goes round the sun.

29Seasons of the Year (sung to Here We Go Round
the Mulberry Bush)
CHORUS Here we go round the year again, The year
again, the year again. Here we go round the year
again, To greet the different seasons.
Wintertime is time for snow. To the south, the
birds will go. Its too cold for plants to
grow Because it is the winter. CHORUS
In the springtime, days grow warm. On the plants,
the new buds form. Bees and bugs come out to
swarm Because it is the spring. CHORUS
In summertime, the days are hot. Ice cold drinks,
I drink a lot! At the beach, Ive got a
spot Because it is the summer. CHORUS
Fall is here, the air is cool. Days are short,
its back to school. Raking leaves is now the
rule Because it is the autumn. CHORUS

32 THE SUN Striking the Earth
Differently Causes Seasons
Presentation by Levesia Sadler
Next
33Earth circles the sun. This is called
revolution. Seasons occur because earths axis
is tilted as it journeys around the sun. This
tilt causes sunlight to hit the surface of the
earth differently during the year.
Next
34The suns rays are fairly straight as they hit
Earths surface. There are also times in which
the suns rays are slanted. These changes,
along with earths revolution, effect the amount
of heat and light Earth receives. Summer,
autumn, winter and spring are the results of
these changes.
Next
N
35When the top of Earths axis points in the
direction of the sun, it is summer in the
northern half. As the Earth moves around the
sun, the top axis no longer points toward the
sun. Neither does the bottom axis. Both halves
of the Earth get the same amount of light and
heat. It is autumn. Later the northern half of
Earth points away from the sun. The suns rays
are slanted when hitting Earths surface,
winter has arrived. During spring neither of
the Earths axis is facing the sun.
Summer the earths northern axis faces the
sun Fall (autumn) northern axis tilts away
from sun Winter earths northern half points
away from the sun Spring neither axis points
in the direction of the sun
