Collection of artworks in shades of blue by Sergei Osipov, Vasily Surikov, Viktor Vasnetsov, Wassily Kandinsky and other Russian painters The assigning of symbolic meanings to colors is probably as old as symbolism itself. “In fact, words are well adapted for description and the arousing of emotion, but for many kinds of precise thought other symbols are much better”. (John B. S. Haldane)

SLIDESHOW – Collection of artworks. There are almost 300 different types of irises. The iris exists in many different colors, explaining its name which is derived from the Greek word for rainbow. The most common color for irises is violet-blue, which is the color of the irises depicted in Van Gogh’s painting. The iris can grow from a root or a bulb. Irises have a long stem and one or more six-lobed petals. For bearded irises, three of these petals curve up and the other three bend down.

Just to make people stop reading them” Ray Bradbury
Lilacs have been a source of inspiration for artists throughout history; Impressionists Vincent Van Gogh and Claude Monet both made famous paintings depicting the beauty of lilacs. Lilacs are ubiquitous both within curated gardens and in the wild. Lilacs have a deep-rooted history originating in ancient Greek mythology. It was said that Pan, the god of forests and fields was hopelessly in love with a nymph named Syringa. One day he was pursuing her through a forest and, afraid of his advances, she turned herself into a lilac shrub to disguise herself. To Pan’s surprise, he could not find Syringa, but he did find the shrub. Because a lilac shrub consists of hollow reeds, he cut the reeds and created the first pan pipe. The scientific name for lilac is Syringa vulgaris, and the name is derived from the Greek word “syrinks” which means pipe.

In the popular social network, Alexander Prostev prefaced his page with a short statement by the Reverend Seraphim of Sarov "Man is joy to man." And we clearly see this message in the works of the artist, to which in fact two defining words are applicable - "light" and "joy". Prostev speaks of earthly love as a projection of the love of heaven.

Collection of artworks (Part 7). Sunflowers represent different things to different people groups around the world. It is fascinating how so many cultures have adopted the sunflower and ascribed it meaning, even though the plant is not native to their area. For example, the Chinese associate the sunflower with longevity. In Ukraine and Russia, sunflowers represent peace and optimism, and Ukraine adopted the flower as its national flower. Sunflowers were also sacred to the ancient Incan people as a representation of their sun god, Inti. In England, sunflowers represent gratitude, while they represent loyalty and devotion in Greece. Though sunflowers have been assigned a variety of meanings, everything the sunflower represents is positive

Collection of artworks (Part 1) Considered to be one of the oldest surviving snacks in the world, the humble but delicious pretzel is thought to have originated in Europe, possibly created by monks in monasteries. Long associated with Germany, perhaps because of its beer-dunking potential, the pretzel was developed in southern France or northern Italy by a 7th-century monk who used leftover dough, folded as if in prayer, to reward children for good behavior.
