1Truth and rumour
Problems using information from the internet and
e mail
2Paul is Dead
- In the 1960s a rumour was circulated that one of
the members of the group the Beatles had died - It was Paul Macartney
- Various clues as to his death were supposed to
be seen on the cover of their LP.

- The scene is very funereal.
- Someone has a hand on Pauls left shoulder
4- The photo on the inside cover has Paul McCartney
wearing a badge with some letters
5- Blowing up the picture shows the letters OPD
- This was believed to stand for Officially
pronounced dead
6- On the back cover Pauls back is turned away.
7- On a later album Paul is shown wearing bare feet
8Why were there rumours?
- To help publicise the album and increase sales?
- Spread by people as a bit of fun?
- It was real?
- In fact, 30 years later, Paul Macartney is living
in Sussex and making music.

- The image on the right was circulated around the
world by e mail. - The message sent with the image said that a New
York group called the Coup had made this CD cover

true they altered picture of the Twin Towers
to show them being blown up - The record company produced a new cover and the
old one was never released a few months after
September 11th.
12The Coup
Lead rapper MC Boots Riley said about the
cover The Coup are deeply saddened by this
horrible tragedy. A new cover has been designed
for Party Musics November 6 release. We took
the pictures on May 15, and we were done with it
by the beginning of June. Any similarities are
totally coincidental . . . .

- A rumour was spread by e mail and on the internet
about a Starbucks Coffee shop in New York - It said that ambulance workers trying to rescue
people on September 11th were charged 100 for
bottled water used to treat victims.
14Starbucks
- You may be surprised to learn that this rumour
turned out to be true . . . but it only involved
one person. - However, try to think how anyone involved or
seeing such terrible events might feel would
you think straight?? - In fact Starbucks were kept open 24 hours a day 7
days a week to support the relief effort and
became a very important place for relief workers
to recover briefly.
