Esomeprazole is a compound isomer of omeprazole that is administered in the magnesium salt form. It is sold under the name of Nexium and used for the treatment of esophagitis, gastroesophageal reflux disease, peptic ulcer, reduces stomach acid and Zollinger–Ellison syndrome. The route of administration of esomeprazole is oral or injected directly into vein. Further, it has many side effects such as headache, constipation, dry mouth, abdominal pain, and some serious side effects are angioedema, pneumonia and Clostridium infection. Esomeprazole is used for a safe pregnancy and also used post-pregnancy by females during breastfeeding. It works by obstructing H+/K+-ATPase in the cells of stomach.
