LOW ALTITUDE EMISSIONS
  • Ions impeding on the upper atmosphere hits a
    wall of neutral oxygen and produces
    low-altitude ENA emissions that are 3 orders of
    magnitude greater than the high-altitude ENAs.
  • In a first approximation, ions in the loss-cone
    will be completely lost to the atmosphere. ? ENAs
    only in the 90 deg direction.
  • HENA sees evidence that ENAs are emitted at
    p.a.ltlt90 deg (upward).
  • Why?

LOW ALTITUDE EMISSIONSNew developments
  • Galand Richmond 1999 showed that an ENA
    mirrors in a converging B-field.
  • On top of that we have energy loss.
