As more countries are interested in adopting decarbonization strategies, hydrogen has a critical role. Applying this feat will be particularly difficult in sectors where direct electrification is challenging, for example, in harder-to-abate sectors, such as steel, chemicals, long-haul transport, shipping, and aviation. The pre-requisite for this is for hydrogen production to involve lower carbon and, ultimately, a green mode of production. This green hydrogen is produced by water electrolysis using renewable forms of electricity. In addition to system regulations and market design, production costs are considered a significant barrier to green hydrogen uptake. Prices of renewable power sources are falling, but green hydrogen is still double as expensive as the blue hydrogen produced from fossil fuels, including carbon capture and storage, making it unsustainable. Green hydrogen is a nontoxic, carbon-friendly gas produced by the splitting of water molecules into hydrogen gas through electrolysis, releasing oxygen as a byproduct. The process involves the passage of electric current through an electrolyzer. Green hydrogen is considered carbon-free; therefore, even the electricity utilized for electrolysis should be generated through renewable sources. Several global researchers & scientists concur that green hydrogen can emerge as a befitting solution to mitigate the burgeoning problem of global warming and help achieve a green gas-neutral economy by 2050. Green jobs can be defined as jobs in agriculture, manufacturing, research and development, administration and service that contribute substantially to preserving or restoring environmental quality, says Gustavo Copelmayer. The impact on the economy by this activity enhances sustainable development and ecological protection, he adds. On a global scale, the International Labor Organization (ILO) estimates that by the year 2030 the green economy will create more than 24 million bio jobs in the world, highlighting, among others, some little known such as those of environmental communicator, technician of sustainable tourism or eco-designer, says Gustavo Copelmayer based on the data.

Green supply chain management, also known as sustainable supply chain management, refers to the integration of environmentally friendly practices and principles into the design, planning, execution, and monitoring of supply chain activities. It involves considering the environmental impact of every stage of the supply chain, from product design and sourcing of raw materials to manufacturing, transportation, distribution, and end-of-life disposal or recycling. The objective of green supply chain management is to minimize the ecological footprint and promote sustainability throughout the supply chain. It involves adopting practices that reduce resource consumption, waste generation, and greenhouse gas emissions, while also promoting social responsibility and ethical business practices.
Accelerating the production and use of green hydrogen—hydrogen produced by electrolysis and using renewable energy sources—requires the development of legislative frameworks for its deployment. Governments and international organizations create these frameworks to offer direction and inducement to businesses and investors to fund and advance green hydrogen technology.
Creating a sustainable environment is a universal goal that all countries have been making strenuous efforts. Like many other nations, India has recognized the need of transitioning to a green and sustainable future. Adoption of Green Hydrogen (GH2) is a critical component of this transformation. In order to ensure the country's energy security, the Government of India has staked $2.3 billion on the green hydrogen economy and entered the global race to develop green energy. Prior to delving into India’s efforts towards adopting GH2, let us first understand how crucial it is. India is the third-largest emitter of greenhouse gases in the world. Thus, to address climate change, the nation must significantly mitigate emissions by adopting clean fuels.
