Overview of Dr. Yans Module
  • This module analyzes the various channels of
economic and financial linkages across countries
    and discusses their implications.
  • In particular, the changing patterns of
international trade and investment are analyzed.
  • We will use the Asian financial crisis of 1997 as
a case study to illustrate the impacts of
    increasing linkages across the globe.

Overview of Dr. Foks Module
  • Marketing is a process of identifying customers
    and satisfying their needs.
  • The first half of the module is from the
consumers' perspectives. They have more choices
now and should be better off. People found it
more convenient to buy goods or even services
from other countries. However, in the long run
some local competitors may not be able to survive
and higher price may need to be paid.
  • The second half of the module is about selling
goods overseas. New challenges include but not
limit to operating in different languages,
cultures and practices, and regulations and
    spending patterns.

Overview of Dr. Laus Module
  • Information and Communication Technologies (ICT)
are the essential enabling tools which support
the rapid adaptation and the extreme flexibility
required by an interconnected, global economy.
  • In the global information age, the most
    productive organizational structure is realized
    through networking.

9
Overview of Dr. Laus Module
  • A network is simply a set of inter-connected
    nodes such as the Internet.
  • A large scale technology enabled global network
    facilitates the circulation of money,
information, images, goods, services, or people.
In other words, ICT provides the basic
infrastructure for us to develop a highly
    efficient and cost-effective hub of
    inter-connecting business units.
  • The most distinctive feature of this new form of
economy or organization structure is that one is
or is not connected to the network.
  • Be in the network, and you can share information
and, over time, improve your business
opportunities. Be out of the network, or become
switched off, and your business opportunities
    vanish.

10
Overview of Dr. Laus Module
  • In this module, we will
  • First explore how ICT facilitates the smooth
operation of a world wide web of interacting
business units or individuals through several
    real-world examples such as Alibaba.com,
    Amazon.com, Facebook, and so on.
  • Second study the practical know-how of connecting
to the global information network after attending
    this module.
