EZ-Buy Development and Implementation at Wolf
Creek

2
Uh Oh Another Software Project
  • Despite a great IT department, our record with
new software implementation is not so hot
  • Late/Never
  • Over Budget
  • Ineffective Product
  • EZ-Buy posed a particular challenge
  • Coordination and integration across multiple
    companies/platforms

3
If We Build It, Will They come?
  • Scientech has been amazing
  • Extremely responsive and flexible
  • Quickly adapt to our system and needs
  • Creative and progressive
  • Encouraged us to think beyond initial scope/plans
  • Capability built in so that we can buy engineered
    and safety-related items
  • Supplier partners have been great to work with as
    well true visionaries!
  • Eliminate RFQ response time/process
  • No WCNOC fax/e-mail to fill out and send back
  • Enhanced order entry
  • Automated, errors eliminated

4
Feedback From Our IT Guru
  • Application Development
  • Estimated at 120 hours total
  • Created a VB application using Visual Studio 2008
  • Polls RAPID EZ-Buy every 30 minutes checking for
    new Purchase Orders
  • Use RAPID EZ-Buy Web Service required less
coding on our side than reading an XML file
  • Able to take advantage of existing Oracle
packages and procedures to create the PO in our
    system (Ventyx EMPAC)

5
Things To Consider
  • Funding Approval
  • Unit of Issue differences (WCNOC vs. Supplier)
  • Integrated Quality approval of safety-related POs
  • Warehouse Receiving requirements
  • Built in stop/hold opportunities that allow us to
address these issues and others and then resume
    PO processing.
  • Remarkably smooth process from our perspective

6
Whats Wrong With Blankets?
  • We use blanket orders to automatically generate
    POs for frequently purchased items
  • Must develop, administer and maintain master
    agreement
  • Agreements built based on order history, but we
have found that most items rarely, if ever, get
purchased yet must be maintained and updated
  • New items must be priced and added to the blanket
to take advantage of auto ordering
  • Our system requires limited manual intervention
on auto-gen orders. Not fully automated.
  • We may leave some pared down blankets in place
for those items that we do order frequently

7
Back In The Day
  • Past use of e-commerce at Wolf Creek required
redundant entry of PO to facilitate follow-up,
    receipt and payment.

8
Buy EZ With EZ-Buy
  • EZ-Buy talks to our system- creates the PO,
approves it, vaults it and updates our tracking
    system with pertinent information
  • Error traps and e-mail updates every step of the
    way ensure a smooth transaction
  • Locate the part(s) in RAPID, add it to your
shopping cart, specify shipping terms and youre
    done
  • Established commercial terms invoked by reference

9
Significant Process Savings For Everyone!
  • Pricing in RAPID reflects USA agreements
  • RFQ process eliminated, no e-mail/fax to send
  • No RFQ for the supplier to fill out and return on
    the suppliers end
  • Order entry faster and more accurate
  • EZ-Buy picks up and includes applicable technical
and quality clauses providing the capability for
purchase of engineered and safety-related items
