2Mission Objective Management
- Mission objectives management is the
understanding of the high-level objectives,
breaking the objectives down into smaller tasks,
then scheduling those tasks against available
resources after having taken all constraints into
account. - Objectives

3Challenge
- Human mission planning for Exploration must
evolve from the current ISS processes into an
autonomous, in-situ planning scenario. - Mission Control must evolve to Mission
Support.

4A New Role
Exploration crews must have the knowledge and
insight into their own constraints and
resources. Exploration crews must have the
ability to effectively plan their own missions
in accordance with program-defined mission
objectives.
5Exploration Planning
Exploration astronauts In-Situ Mission Planning
Specialists will take the daily list of tasks
and schedule the crew according to their own
unique situational awareness
Results and status of the crews workday will
be downlinked for a Mission Support team to
evaluate and organize for the next days list
The task list will be uplinked to the crew
An intelligent on-board planning software will
be needed to understand all the available
resources and the constraints of the crew,
vehicle and mission.
Exploration planners in a support facility will
manage the mission objectives by only creating a
list of tasks.
