Title: Kiwanis CalNevHa Foundation
1Kiwanis Cal-Nev-Ha Foundation
2PTP and our Partner Hospitals
3Its Beginning . . .
Recognizing the serious need for education and
training in the areas of pediatric trauma and
injury prevention, the Kiwanis Cal-Nev-Ha
Foundation established the Pediatric Trauma
Prevention Program.
4Its Mission . . .
"To develop local projects, which will reduce the
number of children in our district who are killed
or injured by trauma."
5Why Pediatric Trauma Prevention?
- Unintentional injury is the 1 killer of children
age 14 and under in the U.S. - Unintentional injury kills more kids every year
than any other cause including disease,
homicide and suicide! - These injuries cost society 175 billion
annually! - 90 of these injuries could be prevented!
6Support for the New Program . . .
In 1994, at the 74th Annual District Convention
in Reno, Nevada, the delegates of the convention
adopted Pediatric Trauma Prevention as the major
focus of the Kiwanis Cal-Nev-Ha Foundation.
7How do We Address These Needs?
- Partner Hospitals
- The Foundations partnership with six childrens
hospitals connects the Kiwanis family to the
issue of Pediatric Trauma - Utilizing the knowledge and expertise of our
partner hospitals, we identify projects the
Kiwanis family can undertake to address the issue
of Pediatric Trauma
