Its Beginning . . .
Recognizing the serious need for education and
training in the areas of pediatric trauma and
injury prevention, the Kiwanis Cal-Nev-Ha
Foundation established the Pediatric Trauma
Prevention Program.

Its Mission . . .
"To develop local projects, which will reduce the
number of children in our district who are killed
or injured by trauma."

Why Pediatric Trauma Prevention?

• Unintentional injury is the 1 killer of children
  age 14 and under in the U.S.
• Unintentional injury kills more kids every year
  than any other cause including disease,
  homicide and suicide!
• These injuries cost society 175 billion
  annually!
• 90 of these injuries could be prevented!

Support for the New Program . . .
In 1994, at the 74th Annual District Convention
in Reno, Nevada, the delegates of the convention
adopted Pediatric Trauma Prevention as the major
focus of the Kiwanis Cal-Nev-Ha Foundation.

How do We Address These Needs?

• Partner Hospitals
• The Foundations partnership with six childrens
  hospitals connects the Kiwanis family to the
  issue of Pediatric Trauma
• Utilizing the knowledge and expertise of our
  partner hospitals, we identify projects the
  Kiwanis family can undertake to address the issue
  of Pediatric Trauma

  support Childrens Hospital Oakland
• Goal is to raise 16,000 this year

  sponsor a MMQ event and golf tournament
• Raised nearly 1.2 million over the past 14 years
  for Childrens Hospital Health Center San Diego
